Ok a few history questions for the ignorant. 1. The KKK coopted the United States flag all through the 30s. Does that mean we need to ban that? 2. The Nazis coopted a Hindu holy symbol. Do we need to ban the swastika? 3. Who committed the first act of war during the Civil War? 4. What was the actual flag of the Confederacy? The reality is that the battle flag of Northern Virginia is no more a symbol of racism than flag of the United States. I find it ironic that so many Americans are ignorant of their own history and the real tragedy of the Civil War. They like to frame it as a "good vs evil" war when slavery was legal in many Union states until long AFTER the war. There is a reason why many historians refer to the Civil War as the "War of Northern Aggression". Go read a few books on the topic. Preferably ones that draw from primary sources and don't ignore the fact that the Union government committed war crimes that would not be seen in the world again until WWI.
