@jamesmoyes5685 What do you mean by “determination”?. Sturgeon and the party she leads are voted into government repeatedly. You don’t like it, but it’s nonetheless a fact they enjoy the support of more Scots than any other party by a country mile. Compare that with the chaotic shambles in Westminster if you want an example of failure.

@jamesmoyes5685 what is your country? Mine is Scotland, but I’m presuming, given you’re a unionist, your country is UK. If you mean Scotland and given the very limited powers available to the Scottish government how has Scotland deteriorated? For me it’s the UK that’s deteriorating, Brexit being the most obvious example of that, and it’s dragging Scotland down with them. We won’t look back when we leave.

@odiedodieuk Unfair - Scotland doesn’t get to vote on Brexit. The fact 62% of us nonetheless didn’t want Brexit is utterly ignored. Unequal - in the UK only England can choose to leave the union for whatever reason they decide. The rest of us have to get “permission”. Care to deny?

@nothanks3236 I’ve been a supporter of Scottish independence for decades and I reckon that’s just your own biased opinion. Which you’re welcome to have, but doesn’t actually tell anyone anything apart from you’re a unionist. Have you anything but bias and opinion to substantiate your claim?

@LIamaMcFudd And do you think it may be possible that there are unionists who’s “nationalistic pride” clouds their judgement? You know, like making the monumental mistake taking UK out of the EU for example? Whether you like it or not, around half of Scots support what you describe in such derogatory terms. So either you’re right, and half of my entire nation is stupid, or - you’re just unable to accept we have a legitimate argument. I don’t believe unionism is stupid, or doesn’t have a case, I just believe independence is a better alternative. There are intelligent unionists, that make a good argument (you haven’t so far), I believe they’re just wrong, not stupid.

@RaferJeffersonIII Well, you’re right about us hating Tories, Scotland last voted Tory in 1955, but here we are in the UK being ruled by them (again). As for Holyrood being run by “Marxist groomers”, how did they get into that position - military coup? Incidentally, you do realise Labour is only the 3rd biggest party in Holyrood? Assuming someone in Scotland votes Labour used to be a fairly safe bet, but that’s not been true for a long time.

As for your belief Scots want to “leech” from the English, or anyone for that matter - you do realise the Barnett formula that dictates how Scotland is funded in the union was created by and is only supported by unionists? It’s actually opposed by the SNP and Scottish Greens.

@RaferJeffersonIII About the only part of your rant I would agree with is your observation that UK is a hopelessly over-centralised country. That’s because successive UK govts have encouraged that situation. But I’d like you to identify who the “we” is you mention when you say “we” should “split off”. Who are you referring to?

@LIamaMcFudd If we get to “vote in the overlords” how come we have yet another Tory government we never voted for? Last time we voted for those overlords was 1955. Scotland doesn’t determine Brit politics, English voters do. Simple fact. As for your attempt to compare membership of the EU with UK. 1. Membership of the EU is voluntary, UK not. It’s not easy to leave the EU, as UK has found out, but if you’re determined to be suicidally stupid, they can’t and won’t stop you. I would argue, on that basis, we are still, like Germany, France etc etc, independent. 2. The list of powers voluntarily ceded to Brussels is nowhere near the level of powers Scotland involuntarily has to give to London. In the UK Scotland can ban air rifles, in the EU we can ban nuclear weapons. 3. There is no one EU state that so dominates the union that it outnumbers and outvotes the rest several times over. There are many more differences.

@LIamaMcFudd The Tories are in opposition, and would stay there forever in an Indy Scotland because we don’t like them. They’ll never see power in Scotland. We don’t get that option in the unequal UK, we get what English voters want, which is either unionist Tories we reject, or unionist Labour which we also reject. You say 50k regulations like UK wouldn’t have enacted similar, or even same ones. Let’s see how many are completely changed as opposed to left or only amended slightly, eh? Plus, as I said and you ignored, it was all voluntary unlike the unfair, unequal and involuntary UK. The UK is indeed a state (until our independence changes that) but it is made up of 4 constituent parts. Are you saying that means nothing?

@readsomebooks666 You’re the one attempting to compare wanting an independent Scotland with wanting to support peadophiles. The SNPs GRR bill, whatever you think of it, had nothing to do with independence, and, I’ll remind you, was supported by a large majority of MSPs in Holyrood and all parties in Scotland apart from the Tories. Because the UK union is unequal and unfair, Westminster could and did slap down the democratic choice of a large majority of Scots representatives. Which is something you no doubt support.

@readsomebooks666 I am in favour of Scots making our own choices in an independent Scotland. There will be choices made by Scottish governments that I will agree with, and those I don’t, but for me, the crucial factor must and will be we make those choices, not people we don’t vote for in Westminster. To repeat the point I made previously and you ignored, what you appear to be unwilling to confront is that the GRR bill was made with the agreement all parties in Holyrood apart from the Tories. It’s got zero to do with independence.

@readsomebooks666 Given we’re now talking theoretically, then that would depend completely on what is meant by “protection” and the situation pedophiles are in in the particular situation. Pedophilia is a heinous and appalling crime and must be dealt with appropriately. Such criminals must receive both correct punishment from, but also the protection of, the law. They should not be subject to lynch mobs for instance, or deliberately put into situations where it’s understood their lives would be in danger.

@Fraser Kerr I find it astonishing how many people appear to need reminded of that obvious and simple fact. If there's one party in the UK that most people could describe as to their main purpose, I reckon the majority would say the SNP. Yet, I've seen all sorts of crazy unionist "explanations" as to why we vote for them. I pressed one unionist guy for an answer to why he reckoned why we vote for them and his response was (and I kid you not) "national intoxication"....

@makeasylumsgreatagain864 Denmark, Switzerland, Ireland and Finland appear to be doing just fine with their roughly 5m or so population, so why are you so convinced we Scots are incapable of doing the same? As for this "anti-Englishness" - any evidence of that? Lastly, as to your suggestion England "supports" us, the UK funding system (Barnett) was created by and is only supported by, Westminster unionist parties. The independence parties in Scotland don't want it and instead want financial independence.

@readsomebooks666 Goodbye, Nicola Sturgeon, hello new leader. To quote Sturgeon, and any sensible observer, independence is not about one person, regardless who they may be. Fairly obvious stuff, I would’ve thought. Plenty talent on the SNP benches. Unionism didn’t disappear (unfortunately) with Brave Dave Cameron, did it? There’s only one way we’re going away, and that’s to arrange the Independence Day street parties. If you’re planning to join us for them, I’d suggest Edinburgh, they usually put on a good event. But… you’ll have plenty to choose from (all of Scotland). Incidentally, why do you use a fake name - is it so that you can be “bolder”?

If you’re so convinced of this surely you can produce some kind of evidence that means I don’t have to “take your word for it”. Which I don’t, obviously. @jamesmoyes5685 Actually my “conversion” happened in the 1980s after I witnessed how Thatcher, who most Scots hated and who’s Tory Brownshirts we never voted for were allowed to wreak their “Year Zero” right wing extremism and economic idiocy that devastated my country. I decided, given Labour only wanted their chance in Westminster and would never change anything, including prevent more atrocious Tory regimes, I had to at least lend what little I could do to end this horrible union. And since then we’ve been getting stronger and stronger. We will prevail. Over 60 places have cast off the dead hand of Brit rule, we’ll just be the latest, but not the last. N Ireland will follow us. Your Brit dream is over, it’s dead state walking…..

Why limit herself to the smaller Scottish “bandwagon”. On the basis of never overlooking the obvious, it’s never struck you that she leads the SNP because she wants to, you know, see an independent Scotland? Crazy I know, but surely worth consideration…..

@danielwarton5343 OK, but you’d (presumably) have to agree her ultimate aim is independence. So, in that case if you agree any SNP leader will want/ need to try to appeal to as wide a Scottish audience as possible to achieve that, why would she adopt an “extreme leftist” agenda? Or an extreme anything for that matter. Are you aware incidentally, that the GRR in question received the support of a large majority of Holyrood MSPs and the Scottish Greens, Labour and Lib Dem parties? In fact only the Tories opposed. Hardly surprising, given they have nothing to lose in Scotland, we last voted for them in 1955.

She is (still) the leader of the SNP, a party that’s raison d’être is, will be and always has been Scottish independence. She is Indy, full stop. Stop kidding yourself. If you prefer to do logic somersaults to come up with something else - be my guest, but don’t ask me to participate. May I suggest you aren’t dissimilar to many unionists who just can’t seem to handle the fact that a massive amount of Scots just don’t “buy” the whole UK thing anymore. We want our own thing. If it helps - it isn’t about UK (not everything is) it’s about us. Incidentally, if you must use the humungously dumb term “Krankie” at least spell it right…?

I corrected that assumption. Anyway - Did she force the Labour, Green and Lib Dem parties in Scotland to support her GRR bill? Why have you never acknowledged the SNP acted in concert with those parties over this issue - ruin your agenda?

@danielwarton5343 OK, so why are you unconcerned about the fact that the GRR bill was supported by those other parties? Why does the fact that Holyrood collectively supported it with only the Tories opposing not mean anything to you? Why not think about that more challenging question rather than use this as an excuse to take a cheap pop at one politician? Why not instead ask yourself why the Tories are out of step in Scotland - as they usually are incidentally…. You should try to challenge your own assumptions now and again.

Unlike where we stand in the UK where we last voted for the hopeless, corrupt Tories in 1955. I’m not “willing” to get that - I want it. Looking over the border at the Brit shambles in Westminster - who could blame anyone for wanting the Hell away from that?

@odiedodieuk No, that’s not what I said. I said I trust Scottish democracy to deliver us a Scottish government we want. That government will be formed by a party that we vote for, based on previous record and current manifesto. What would suggest we do otherwise?

@odiedodieuk I don’t buy it when people tell me they want indy but vote unionist because of the SNP. If you want Scotland to be independent you must accept that means we will be governed by the parties we vote for. If you prefer the union to that, then it’s simple - you’re a unionist, as it’s clear to me you are.
