  1.  @jimbar28 Crimean population has always been pro Russia. No one asked the Russians that are the huge majority in Crimea whether they wanted to be in Ukraine, they were just put there by a pro Ukrainian Soviet President in the 1950s.

  2. @ Yes, but nonetheless fighting Ukraine, even with huge material aid, and fighting the whole of NATO, even European NATO only, would be a whole different ballgame. The point I’m trying to make is anti Russian people can’t have it both ways, if, as they make out, they’re struggling to beat Ukraine, then they can’t be any kind of threat to Poland, far less UK or France. I get annoyed at those that criticise and belittle Russian progress in Ukraine, while telling us we need to worry about Russian troops marching up Argyle St in Glasgow one day. My take is that the Ukraine war is proving we have less to fear from Russia, not more….

  3. How exactly would you explain how Russia is a threat to UK? I mean, they’re struggling to get past one of the poorest nations in Europe right now, with whom they share a huge border…?

  6. According to W, Brit defence spending in 2022 was the highest in Europe, excluding Russia. I’m not sure why some people reckon we need to spend more? It’s not like we have an empire anymore…..

  10.  @Max_Da_G  I’m not. I have absolutely nothing against either Russians or Ukrainians. Who I do have a problem with are those that would use this conflict to stoke the fires of war.

  11.  @kxmalahov  UK is the second highest spender on military in Europe, just behind Germany. However on a per capita basis UK spends more than Germany. We should be spending less, not more.

  12.  @choppal5610  I’m not naive. Your premise of a UK/Ukraine conflict is inconceivable, so imagining who would “win” such an unreal scenario is for board games only. Getting back to reality, I have immense respect for the Ukrainian soldiers fighting an unwinnable war. I believe they’re giving the Russians far more of a fight than they envisaged and inflicting serious losses on them. However, I don’t respect the Ukrainian leadership, both military and political, in fact I wouldn’t trust the Ukrainian politicians as far as I could throw them.
