The Welsh will learn, same as we in Scotland have done, the only way to get policies that are best for Wales is for them to be made in Wales.

Usernamedefault. only, speaking as a Scot, that’s leaving with Westminster all of things I want taken away from UK the most. Federalism sounds wonderful, but it simply won’t work in a UK utterly dominated by one nation out of 4. Could Scotland rejoin the EU, could we chuck out Trident, could we refuse to join illegal UK wars, could we decide to leave the UK if we want…? No.

@skymanifest8339 And if one of those decisions made in Edinburgh is to rejoin the EU then that will be the will of the Scottish people. We didn’t want to leave, 62% of us said Remain.

Usernamedefault. Do you consider it fair that out of all the 4 nations of the UK only 1 (no prizes for guessing which) could leave the UK union as and when it pleases and for whatever reason it pleases? I personally find that unacceptable.

@britnatzaredemocracydenier5922 She’s not the only English person living in Scotland with the same views, there are plenty English Indy supporters. Why not after all? Anyone that comes to build a life in our country must realise what’s best for Scotland is best for them, and they soon learn how damaging Westminster rule is for us.

@RoachChaddjr Well, not everyone. British economic policy, both Labour and Tory, has been resolutely Londoncentric. When all roads lead to Rome, Rome gets richer. Britain is hopelessly over centralised, but it doesn’t have to be like that, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, all have decentralised economies.

@skymanifest8339 We will enjoy it, thanks. Once we finally prise the luxury of choice out the dead hands of Westminster. If we freely choose to surrender some limited sovereignty to Brussels in return for real benefits, a choice which we will be free to reverse if we choose to (again that word) that IS independence. Now let’s compare that with what we have in the UK union. Won’t take us long because the answer is FA. We have zero choice to do anything in the UK. So, yes, we’ll have some of that, you keep your union, and your Brexit.

Usernamedefault. You’re not getting it. Which is a common unionist failing. Firstly, England doesn’t have “disproportionate power” it has all power. What pathetic “powers” Westminster has decided/dictated Holyrood should have (Scotland doesn’t get a say in that) are devolved, which means ultimately retained by Westminster. All power in UK resides in Westminster, including that of shutting down Holyrood if it pleases. Secondly who gets to says what England (and therefore Scotland) “deserves” or not? Oh, England of course, because of its “disproportionate power”. How handy is that wee circular argument? Thirdly, for people like me it’s not (you really need to grasp this one) a case of “who deserves what” in the unequal, unfair, undemocratic and involuntary UK union, we don’t want the union at all - full stop. I’m not sure you understand the concept of Scottish independence. It means you run your country as you see fit and we do the same, it means England having no more say in the affairs of Scotland than it does Ireland or Latvia, for that matter. We’re no longer your concern (and vice versa) or yours to dictate to. The union will be basically over - not that that’s why we want what we do. We’re not negotiating better terms (or “disproportionate consideration” as you so arrogantly put it) we intend to exit the contract. Consider that…

@malcolmbartram5273 What facts did I get wrong? As for your ancient history lesson, what on earth has that to do with whether independence or union is the best path for my country? As for Wales, I’m not sure who they’ll have to have such a robust naval defence against ? Perhaps the rampant piracy plaguing the Holyhead to Dublin ferries? In any case, I’m not saying Wales should be independent, that’s a question for the Welsh (us Scots have our own struggle against British unfairness), but what I am doing is reminding the Welsh of one of the many prices of union in the UK, which is that Wales’ best interests will not necessarily be the determining factor for Welsh policies emanating out of Westminster.

@RW-nr6bh Yes, England does have all the power, it just dresses up as the UK while it does it. If you want to prove me wrong, give me an instance (any one, any time) where Scotland made Westminster give it something it didn’t agree to. Alternatively, give me one example where England didn’t get what England wanted. As for the birthplace of unionist politicians that happen to have been born in Scotland? What did that give Scotland, apart from a few Uncle Tams? Gordon Brown even proposed his ridiculous “Britishness Day” that even the Tories baulked at. Being Scotland in the UK is akin to 10 wolves and 1 sheep getting an equal say on what’s for dinner. Don’t you worry about how Scotland will be ruled, that’s our affair.

@mogznwaz What does UK supply to EU that EU member states can’t instead buy from other EU members? The entire ethos of the EU is to promote inter-EU trade and avoid, where possible, ex-EU trade. Brexit didn’t “bar” us from trading with the EU, but it has made trade more difficult and costly, to expect that not to result in trade problems is unrealistic. How can this not harm our trade with our biggest trading partner by a country mile?

Why would a leader of the (opposition) Labour Party be “expected” to condemn a strike? I’m only disappointed he’s not supporting it. The way Tories talk, the right to withhold your labour is, by its very nature, an evil.

@andrewwilson6085 Successive Brit govts have pursued a policy of Londoncentrism, that has been to the detriment of everyone outside the SE of England. In fact I have friends from London and they say it harms them too, with overcrowding and ridiculous house prices no one but the wealthy can afford. UK governance generally stinks, I have to say.

I really hope Lynch doesn't become a Labour MP and enter Wastemonster. He'll be finished if he does, he'll end up as useless as the rest of them.
