  1. There's already even smaller versions of this. Look up the Principality of Sealand for example. It's cute and all, but no one recognizes such gimmick 'nations'. Also life on an abandoned rig would be miserable, not cool, assuming you could even get by there without the regular shipments of stuff that they're normally reliant on. Even the Sealand folks don't actually live there, just lay claim to it.
