@belstar1128 o, opening up fully in 1947 would've been a massive mistake imo. It would likely have the way of so many African and also ex-Soviet states that were drained dry upon opening up suddenly. You need to build a proper domestic base first. India did that in the 50s and 60s. By the mid 70s sure, but any earlier would be a mistake.

@belstar1128 Look up the IMFs Structural Adjustment Programs. They have a long and sordid history. That's what opened some nations up, in most cases to their detriment. Even today both India and China retain strict capital controls for this reason, cos that was one of SAPs major mistakes.

@nosotrosloslobosestamosreg4115 It's not the exception, others did it too. Like another Asian tiger, Taiwan. Hell the biggest rise in history is also a case in point - China kinda copied from South Korea's playbook. Industrial policy isn't exclusive to the east either, even the West did it, just much earlier. The book Kicking Away the Ladder by Ha Joon Chang goes over the many examples.
