Comments by "Persona" (@ArawnOfAnnwn) on "China's Gallium & Germanium Export Controls" video.
Makes about as much sense as the US' excuses for its own export controls. No one really believes either claim (or if they do, I'd say they're naive). This is a trade war. America restricts stuff from us, we can hit back in turn. Even the video itself says this is more of a warning shot than one that's meant to be actually impactful.

@SeaJay_Oceans Adapting to these particular export controls isn't hard and the Chinese likely know that. As the video ends, they're making a statement. There's much more they can cut, many of which aren't easy to replace, if the US pushes it that far.

I wonder if you'd say the same about the wests' own export bans, which these are a response to. Also wheat can be sourced from loads of places. They've already sworn off US pork, which was readily replaced by other nations. Wheat is even easier to come by.

This is already a response to American export bans. This one isn't even meant to be particularly serious, as the video notes. And you want to spiral things even more?...

Tbf I've seen reporters speak much the same way about the US in American media. Especially establishment ones like the WSJ or NYT or CNN, from people like Tom Friedman or Fareed Zakaria.

Man considering how much some Americans hate him and want to end his legacy, Trump sure has left a long tail that seems to have permanently altered US politics. He started the trade war, which now ironically is being pushed even harder by his opposite party successor. And with China responding in kind, it's starting a dangerous escalatory spiral that goes beyond even anything Trump envisioned, let alone did. But the real irony is just how even Trumps' most ardent enemies have since embraced his foreign policy, albeit a bit less unilaterally. He really did leave one hell of a mark on American politics, far beyond the one they keep cribbing about in the Supreme Court.
