@Quickshot0 This is more about advances in batteries and capacitors than lasers really. The problem with laser weapons - and why we don't have laser guns (one of the reasons anyway) - is that you need a lot of power to have a laser strong enough to burn through metal quickly. Hence why even now they're being put on large vehicles, especially ships, that can meet those power requirements. And even they couldn't do it until recent decades. Lasers, ironically given how they're talked up in scifi, are just really weak. Projectile weapons will likely continue to be the norm for a long time to come as they're just more practical for most use cases. We may even never see practical handheld laser guns! 😢

@petermccannell7565 Possible yeah. Probable? Ehhh... If we invented the tech to power actually powerful handheld laser guns to the extent they do in scifi, that tech is likely to be far more transformative than the laser lol! With that kind of power and affordability, we could easily make all electric long range flying cars a thing, among many many other things. If only...😅
