'Shock therapy', as it's known, isn't new. That's why there's already a term for it, as much as Milei wants to rebrand it as a 'chainsaw'. It was tried already in eastern Europe over 30 years ago. The results were a mixed bag. Some nations did well off of it, like the Czech Republic. Others were absolutely ruined by it, like Moldova. In hindsight it's generally considered a terrible approach. The countries that managed it well were ones that were measured and thoughtful and thus did NOT rush through drastic changes like Milei is trying to do

He'll have 3, 5 at the most. If he can't deliver by then, no one's gonna give him any longer given how much turmoil he's causing.

@Qbajd Eastern europe tried this 30 years ago. It was a mixed bag, but 'shock therapy' is widely considered to have been a terrible idea in retrospect. The countries that pulled through mostly did NOT do things as drastically as Milei is trying to.

@peterp7541 The macro has actually got worse in most respects, except for debt.

@welshtoro3256 All of the countries had corruption, including the Baltics. Corruption is just this airy thing people want to blame when they don't have any other ideas, like the economics equivalent of sexual selection for evolutionary biologists ('so why did this trait evolve despite seemingly not doing anything useful? idk, the females of the species must find it hot i guess lol!). Blaming corruption for poor economic outcomes is basically just shrugging.
