  1. Also investment into nuclear energy is already in the doldrums. The industry as a whole is mostly stagnant, so if they want to take on nuclear it'll be heavily state dependent because the private investment just isn't there. The returns from nuclear just aren't as enticing anymore, with competitive alternative investments considering nuclears' long payback times.

  2. Iran is a non-starter since the US has made them an enemy and no one trusts Europe to defy American foreign policy. Also the west has a growing list of issues with Turkey, and Iran has issues with Qatar. Basically just cos the west now wants to get away from Russia doesn't mean no one has issues with anyone else anymore, as this video also shows. And btw Iran already does supply gas to the world, just not the western world i.e. China and India. As I've said many times before, the west is NOT the world.

Those two are hardly the only dictator the West has been happy to work with. KSA is a western ally, even has an ongoing war in Yemen. The West has always supported plenty of dictators when it suits it, including their wars (Indonesia in East Timor, Pakistan in Bangladesh, etc.), and even installed some of their own when they could (Chile, Gautemala, etc.). Even now, do you think Iran is the only autocratic state they're reaching out to? Iran is actually one of the least autocratic ones. Both Algeria and Morocco mentioned in this video are way more autocratic. Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are another pair not mentioned here that they're keen to get oil and gas from. Qatar is even a popular investment destination lol. Do you think Kissinger invented realpolitik? The West has practiced realpolitik for centuries. Kissinger was just a bit more honest about it, nothing more. The West has never had a problem with dictators, so long as they serve it's own interests. In some cases they even prefer them over the democratic options, such as across, well, most of the Middle East lol.

  4. Europe is the most rabidly anti-nuclear continent on Earth, with France being an exception. And note that the war in Ukraine is giving people even more reason to be jittery about nuclear now (whether those fears are justified or not) thanks to the new from Zaporizhia.
