The real question - how much will these sanctions hurt the REST of the world, particularly the developing world? Europeans are currently making a big show of claiming they're willing to pay for higher fuel prices, completely lacking the self-reflection to realize the only reason that's an option for them is cos Europe is rich. Meanwhile they're making the rest of the world poorer. And their grand claims of collective sacrifice for Ukraine ring hollow since they never reacted like this to non-European nations being at war.

@rebeccaaldrich3396 Miss, don't take that high and mighty attitude with us. America has a long history of supporting, allying with and even installing (Chile, Gautemala, etc.) dictatorships when it was convenient for them. Plenty of wars of its own too, in fact it has a much higher death toll with its wars this century than Russia does. So don't even start with your hypocrisy. India's foreign policy puts America's to shame wrt to how positive it's been.

@ScienceTechComputers It is a west thing, because the sanctions and other economic moves are mostly from the west and its allies. Condemning Russia at the UN is one thing, waging economic war at the cost of the whole world is quite another. There was no global vote on any of that, and you'd probably be surprised by the result if there were. Countries mostly won't vote to impoverish themselves. Shocking I know...

@derekmarlowe522 Lol, the US has literally sanctioned India before. It's also literally militarily intimidated India before.

@wafercrackerjack880 You may. I won't. Good luck trying to blackmail my country. It'll backfire bigtime

@ant4686 No, he's saying that the west exercising so much economic heft shows the world that its hegemony needs to be challenged if nations are ever to be their own masters. And your grand claims of caring for Ukraine ring hollow since they never reacted like this to non-European nations being at war. Including wars BY the west, even though they had higher death tolls.
1
@wafercrackerjack880 Actually you're being short-sighted, as this kind of massive reaction is going to have, indeed is already having, far broader impacts that just hitting Russia. It's hitting the rest of the world too, and it's especially making a lot of ppl uncomfortable with the kind of power being wielded by the west, especially given how partisan their wielding of it is. You think you're just weakening Russia. What you're really doing is impoverishing a lot of ppl, and making a LOT more future rivals.

@thomasb5600 The UN voted to condemn an invasion, not for these sanctions. That vote, if it were held, would be VERY different. Cos nations mostly don't vote to impoverish themselves. Shocking I know...
1
@thomasb5600 Which is my point. Being against an invasion is one thing, but to pretend that means the world backs these sanctions is quite another.

@alansnyder4104 This isn't a war between democracy and dictatorships, that's just your propaganda version of it. Drop the grandstanding. America is literally turning TO a bunch of dictatorships right now to help ease the oil crisis. Two of them being US allies, both involved in a war of their own in Yemen that's hurt way more people that America gave no shits about.
