@PK-lo6ws The US is the most fickle ally you could ever ask for (unless you're an Anglophone country, which we aren't). They've supported Pakistan for longer than they've sided with us, just cos it served their own interests. We've had a more reliable ally in Russia than the US. I wouldn't put my faith in anything the Americans claim - work with them as long it benefits you, but always ensure you can afford to be ditched at a moments notice.

@alirazi9198 The US is a fickle ally. They've sided with Pakistan for longer than they have with us, whenever it served their interests. We've defied them before in buying Russians weapons. We defied them in developing our own nuclear arsenal. And we can defy them on Iran. Unfortunately this time around our govt. seems unwilling to do it. It's cowardly and craven. Russia has been a more reliable ally for India than the US has ever been, so screw them. We ought to just work with Iran.

Plan 1 failed cos of the US. Them and their damn never-ending feud with Iran hurts our interests, on this and much else. We don't have an issue with Iran. Ironically, that has worked to China's advantage aka the US' great rival.

@MesoMan77 Iran ditched India because our attempts to needle through the pinhole the US left us with were going nowhere. So they went with a country that would get stuff done. We could've made something there, had either the US stopped undermining Iran or we'd stopped playing by their rules. Neither happened. :|

@Arya_amsha That dumb "debt trap" rhetoric is an overblown meme. It's a gross oversimplification of Chinese loans, and even the economic situation of the nations you mentioned i.e. Pakistan and Sri Lanka. There are academic analyses (not from China) that show up how unhinged from reality the debt trap idea is. But anyway, while the BRI isn't exactly going great, even mediocre results would outshine the project this video talks about. The reason being that the BRI is a massive project, so even modest results are huge, while the last Indian project talked about in this video is far more modest right from the outset. So even if it's totally successful, it'll only make a small difference compared to the BRI.

AUKUS only matters to two nations - the US and Australia. The US arms its regional vassal with more subs against China, and Australia gets to pretend it matters. The UK is just the guy who was in Australia's place earlier. As for China, Australia is hardly a threat to them so it doesn't matter insofar as Australian actions are concerned. They'll only be looking at the US, since those subs will only come into play if the US calls on its local attack dog to support its efforts in a war.

@shiveshsingh3169 Trump isn't in power anymore, and Iran is still under sanctions. Also, the sanctions predate Trump as well - by a long way. Besides, what's the point investing billions into a project that's perennially at risk from the wild swings of American politics? We've never had an issue with Iran, while the US has been an extremely unreliable ally, so there's little reason for us to toe their line, if our govt. just had the spine to.

@NLTops Here's the thing about the US. It's been the richest country in the world for over a century. Yet it has the highest poverty rate in the developed world. Now THAT'S embarrassing. And this despite the fact that the continent is blessed with resources of every kind, started out with a relatively educated immigrant population, is one of the safest places in the world from invasion thanks to two MASSIVE oceans plus just two weak neighbours (America's military spending is absurd - India, China and Russia have far more need for big armies than the US), and has had about 250 years to build up (well over 150 years since their home turf has had to deal with any kind of war. And this is their state despite all their advantages. Here's another per capita stat for you, which shows how ridiculous the US is - America has the second highest per capita military spending on Earth (second only to Israel), despite having so much poverty relative to their peers. They don't just spend a lot because their economy is big, they really do spend a lot. Guess where China, the second highest military spender in absolute terms, is? 58th! It's literally behind Azerbaijan lol. Even Russia is 25th place. America literally prioritizes killing people over the welfare of its own. India only got it's independence a little over half a century ago (after being plundered for over two centuries), isn't as resource rich as the US, has already had to fight 5 major defensive wars and is generally in a far less secure region, and started out with a largely poor and uneducated workforce. And yet it's still managed to emerge as the worlds' 5th biggest economy, and also 4th strongest military (and also nuclear) power, attained self-sufficiency and steadily reduced poverty and risen education and health. India's record might compare unfavorably against China. But it compares pretty well against the US when you realize just how much of a head start it has had and how incredibly fortunate the US is. Israel calls itself the Promised Land, but few nations compare to how gifted America has been.

Gaurav Khanna It's not a white elephant, it's just more modest. It's no grand masterplan to counter China no, but it does still stand to benefit India and all the participating nations. And it would've been even better had we been able to enact the original plan of going via Iran.

@racheddar It doesn't counter the Belt and Road, as it's just a way smaller project. It does benefit the participating nations though.
