As a part of my previous job, I was at the exterior security building getting permitting at a US Naval Air Station when several producers/PAs/whatever from Top Gun Maverick came in to do location scouting. So it's entirely possible that the Darkstar mockup that they were using in the film was located on a genuine military airfield, and that's what would have convinced China to reroute its satellite.
