The problem being is the job centre does not help people to get back into work, especially those who have an illness or disability.
They need to change the job centre into employment agencies, who help people find work, if they offered temporary jobs which would help give people the confidence to take jobs that they may be afraid to try, they need to offer retraining for people who can not return to their origional career due to disablities.
All the job centres do is check you have spent 40 hour a week looking for a job and completed applied for X amount of jobs even if there are no jobs that these people are qualified for or are afraid to apply for because it is out of their field of previous employment.
Many kids leave school with little or no prospects because they are not academic and there is no practical courses that they could do. If instead of pushing all kids to take academic courses, they should be given the opportunity from 16 years onwards to train for things like bricklaying, plumbing, electricians, cooks, nurses, care assistants etc, even set up Armed Services training camps, with a view to once they turn 18 joining the Services.
They got rid of the Enterprise scheme for young people that helped them write CVs, apply for jobs, gave them training on how to do interviews, apply for training.
My son asked the job centre if he could go on a training course to be a forklift drives, because there were loads of jobs being advertised in that field, they said no because it wouldn't get him a job, my Father paid for him to do the course as I couldn't afford to, he passed with flying colours. He then went and took CVs to all the companies in the area that used forklift drivers, when he went into the job centre to sign on that week he was told they were going to sanction him for not apply for jobs on line and that hanging out CVs would not get him a job,, the next day he got a call from an agency that interview for CAT, the started 2 days later.
I went into the job centre and said to the person who had told him that forklift training and CVs would not get him a job and explained to her that her advice had been wrong, that the forklift training and handing out CVs had in fact got him a job in one of the top companies in our area
