Shimin Shamim You know I actually kinda agree with you. They aren't bad people, really and they are just pop singers. To me they are just harmless really. Swift has gotten better over the years, her latest songs haven't been so bad. Blank Space is quite catchy. The thing with her doing songs about exes etc. is really only slightly annoying but it did get overwhelming. There's a male equivalent to her, a band called Theory of a Deadman and they are perhaps even more annoying, with literally 7 in 10 of all their songs being about being dumped by some chick or some chick who doesn't want to hook up with them. But different than Swift, they aren't talented at all for being a Nickelback knockoff. What I really dislike about her is that she thinks Spotify isn't paying her enough. Allow me to give you some perspective. My favorite band of all time is Bad Religion. They have been around for 35 years and they made, as a band, a very small percentage of what Swift made and Swift has only been in the music industry since 2007. At an average age that is approaching 50, they still tour, around the world, and play roughly 100 shows a year, each show costing at most $50 and their set being an hour long usually. They are, for the most part, self managed as well. When they were Taylor Swift's age, they were booking their own shows. But why aren't we hearing anything from them? I feel like maybe a publicist told Swift to say what she said about Spotify not paying her enough tbh. 1D are just another random pop group, so that's all I've ever expected of them. I just don't like the music they play, but that's about it.

Shimin Shamim I may not like most of her music, and the fact that her greed is masked by charity isn't really cool, but she's hardly "the cancer of the music industry" as most in my camp would say. She's a 25 year old girl who makes cute songs about boys and stuff. I'll never take that seriously. But I understand why it exists. You see unlike most other haters of popular music I have the unique ability to put things in perspective. I call it the "Nickelback Effect." When a band or artist gets wildly popular, it kind of shows their true colors and tests their character, as they now have the opportunity to make records that are more and more mediocre compared to their earlier releases (Like Nickelback, A7X, Maroon 5 and many others), or keep putting out decent records. Hundreds of bands take the first option so this way they can record mediocre material, and still come away with a ton of cash. There are a very select few who keep putting out solid records, its more rare than anyone could possibly think. Who's to say my favorite bands wouldn't do this? But they haven't reached that kind of popularity.

fobpatdrkcgp She shouldn't have played country to start. She's much better as a pop singer. I actually don't mind Blank Space. It's a catchy song, and tbh the song about her exes could all just be about a small group of exes for all we know and its of no concern to me anyways all things considered. Hopefully Swift continues doing pop songs. They sound SO much better than the country pop songs she was playing before.

Paul Devereaux If anyone IS a cancer to music, it really is Nicki Minaj. That woman has literally no talent. It's very hard to sit through even a couple of minutes, and she has the uncanny ability to diss everyone except her in her songs. One of her songs disses fat women, skinny women, AND men within a minute. If skinheads weren't white supremacists, Nicki Minaj could fit right in with them lol.

John Levin Well lets compare them to their cousins, Motorhead and Megadeth. Go back to 1987 when all four bands were making records. Megadeth and Motorhead were WAY better than Metallica and GnR were. Maybe Metallica and GnR had some better individual songs on their records, but Motorhead and Megadeth by far had more solid records from start to finish. Yet Metallica and Axl Rose brag about how they brought metal to the mainstream.

John Levin Metallica are like the Yankees of Rock. They are the most popular, loved and hated band in the world pretty much. But not the best. Like Nickelback, they got lazy after a certain time. Compare everything after St Anger against their records in between Cliff's death and Reload. You'll see what I mean.

Paul Devereaux Green Day changed your life? Really? You have no position to diss Taylor Swift about spotify not paying her enough if Green Day is your favorite I'm just sayin. To drive this point home, Allow me to give you a history lesson: In nearly three and a half decades of playing, Bad Religion made MAYBE a few hundred thousand with their content, most of which inspired bands like Green Day. Yet Green Day are being inducted into the hall of fame. Did you listen to UnoDosTre? Compare it to Bad Religion's most recent release True North and tell me which one wasn't phoned in. I'm not trying to diss you or Green Day really. Before Warning, they made some pretty decent records. Insomnia is in my top 10 records of all time and Westbound Sign is my favorite Green Day song ever. I just find it kinda lame how you can trash Taylor Swift for saying that spotify isn't paying her enough then come right back and say that Green Day is your favorite band. Us Old School punkers don't like that lol.

Paul Devereaux I never said they didn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. I'm just saying that they've gotten more mediocre over the years. You can't deny that they have been phoning it in since Warning. They were as Punk as anyone else when they were on Gilman Street. I mean compare American Idiot and UnoDosTre to Kerplunk, Dookie, and Insomniac and those newer records just do not hold up. Meanwhile when it comes to Bad Religion, True North is just as good as anything from their records from 1980-1995. NOFX and Pennywise are the same, if these bands ever make a bad record its usually because its either a bad experiment (See: NOFX "Coaster," Bad Religion "Into The Unknown") or they made changes that made fans mad (See: Pennywise "All of Nothing"). I'll admit to being biased. When I compare Green Day to Bad Religion, Minor Threat, The Casualties, Black Flag et al I get upset because those bands struggled just as much if not more than Green Day but they don't get a quarter of the recognition :( You were right to trash Swift. She makes enough money. She's the perfect example of an artist I can kind of tolerate, but have a hard time respecting. I'd respect her more if she just admitted to being greedy tbh.

Shimin Shamim Psy was just a flash in the pan. Only reason why he couldn't hold up was because Gangnam Style was just a fad and Gentleman was just an after effect. After he released Hangover, he was already forgotten. If 1D changed their style they may or may not have the same legion of fans. Same with Swift. It wouldn't matter because in order for them to stay relevant in any aspect, they would need to come out with new stuff on the reg. Music just doesn't have its mainstays anymore because there is too much of it and everyone has ADHD now so artists need to constantly keep putting out stuff, even if they are remixes. Linkin Park is a great example of this. They put out new records every three years or so like any other band would, but were smart enough to make sure to also put out remixes of their previous material. Look at Ellie Goulding and even Carly Rae Jepsen (who I will admit, is VERY talented). Three years ago EVERYONE was talking about them. But now they are forgotten. La Roux, one of my favorite acts of this decade so far, is now gone but in 2010 you couldn't go anywhere without hearing Bulletproof. The last time anyone has heard of Lily Allen, who was one of my favorite artists in the new millenium, was on a Pink song. And she had like one verse. Like the others mentioned, she waited too long in between releases. The pace of popular music these days as compared to 15-20 years ago is MUCH faster.

Paul Devereaux I kind of agree with that, but tbh that's like saying that A7X in 2009 was better than Nickelback in 2009. It's like saying Miley Cyrus is less ratchet than Ke$ha. There were two really good pop singers to emerge this decade, La Roux and Ellie Goulding. Unfortunately, because they haven't kept up with the ADHD nature of pop music popularity and didn't release new material every six months, they faded into obscurity. Bulletproof and Lights were some of my favorite pop songs this decade so far.
