The same lie is told here: study, study and study go to university and you'll be fine. The big difference is that university is afforable here and the quality is pretty good too.
In reality, there's other ways to make money and there's other jobs that are needed, some of the jobs even pay very well.
Just take electrician or plumber, those people always have a job and it pays nicely, hours are pretty decent too. You want an easy job that pays really well? Become a welder.
In my own case, I dropped out of college for personal reasons, but at the end of the day I'm still earning 2-3 (to even 4 times during some periods) your average salary. My current job has a higher hourly wage than some of my college educated friends. Here's the other funny part, current jobs I had had quite a lot of vacation days, that means freedom on a scale most people couldn't dream of. That's just such BS if you ask me, the whole idea that if you go to university you'll be fine.
There's well paying jobs without any major degrees.
The student loan thing, yeah, it's a problem in many countries, I'll hope that one day those broken systems will be stopped, but same in Japan, oldschool politicians are keeping the system in place.
