Here's the truth: men much prefer the natural look, this applies to face & body, that's reality. That's not everyone, but it's the majority of men.
As for Japan, and Asia overall, people claim they don't wear heavy make up, I admit it's natural looking and it looks nice, however when the difference is such that you can't recognise the same person before and after make-up, that is considered heavy make up, no matter what excuses you want to come up with.
I think it's an issue stuck in Japanese (& chinese & Korean, etc...) culture, people attach a bit too much importance on your looks. It's harsh, but you got to accept what you got, what these women say is true, you won't be wearing make up all day long, the man will eventually see your real face.
I live in near Brussels, most women & girls I know don't wearing any make up, to me that's natural, they wear make up on special occassions, but it's fairly light as you still recognise them. All the women I've dated did not wear any make up when we first started dating, they might put on some on special occassions. In Europe, some parts are similar, girls/women walk around natural with nothing on their face, but then some parts are mid range to heavy make up, depends on the city/region. I have noticed in the USA, women wear pretty heavy make up, but then you have regions where girls walk around just natural.
I think women need to accept themselves, personally I don't like the fact that some women seemingly hide behind their make up, I don't think it makes such a giant difference. I could not date such a woman, but I'm in luck, most women here walk around with a natural no make up look.
