I can only imagine how hard it is to balance the care you're wanting to give many of them when you're also facing shelling and death at the same time and many of them not fully understanding what is going on or won't listen. It must just tip so many over the edge eventually to resort to doing something like that. From how much these events can hurt the human mind, and even more so for these disabled children, i wouldn't be surprised for some if they ended up in mental asylum or something before transitioning out of it after a few years sadly. In those places they sometimes have to resort to strapping patients down at night or even the day as well, so this doesn't feel like a large stretch to me. But of course I'm not condoning their former carers actions, just tryng to say that people do things under stress when the pressure gets to much to them that needs to be taken into account.
