The UK has been doing this for quite awhile thankfully. We have the biggest one in the world that was originally considered an embarrassment, but now is a source of pride that we are actually using the spend fuel for alternative use.

I couldn’t agree more. To me, planting any mass crops in this area let alone oil development is a complete nonstarter that feels so plainly obvious. It just baffles me that anyone could even consider it at this stage.

@humnnn Well, if they do that then that just means more habitat loss, ever greater conflict between humans and wild animal life which is already bad in Africa as the country is already too developed to begin with. Let alone already absolutely massive issues with water supply which isn’t going to get any better any time soon. Unfortunately, it really does feel like Africa’s only practical option is to reduce its population across a looot of its nations. That would literally, LITERALLY solve basically all its problems. Same goes for India, America, South America, China and many other Southeast Asian countries.

If paying means that we can keep this forest safe and we can BREATH, THEN THAT IS WHAT WE MUST DO. It’s that, always slowly start chipping away at it bit by bit with excuse after excuse for human development, until it truly is all gone. You need to stamp out human development right at the start, otherwise never-ending amount of excuses will happen for humans to continue to develop it for all sorts of little reasons until it is nothing but a theme park forest of no value. If we wish to keep it safe, we need to give the local community financial help instead. There is no other option. Another good question is though, why is the local community not being paid enough in the first place. This also needs to be investigated.
