I really don’t think there is any comparison here between the UK government and the CCP of China. I can’t believe people continue to do this. Not only is it incredibly dumb, but it’s also impossibly insulting to ‘all these people’ who are living under basically a dictatorship disguise is something that it is clearly not, and are not allowed to say a bloody word about it. It’s our responsibility to do as much as we can for them.

MrLeonthepro Really don’t think there is any equal comparison between politics here. I think I would be terrified to go with that kind of government looming over me. I’m pretty sure I would’ve been arrested within the first hour or something.

@yosserc Exactly. The bad politicians love this kind of thing because it really helps to divide people from the good politicians. We really need to remember that these are still human beings and a lot of them do go into politics because they really do want to implement change. To say they are all the same is just as insulting as what some of the bad ones say, even if we don’t want to acknowledge it.

@LightningG1rl At least you acknowledge about not trying to compare the UK government to China’s. That’s a very slippery slope.👍🏼

Here here. I don’t dare to think what they are planning to do in the coming months that they don’t want anyone to ask questions about. It’s already a nightmare to begin with, so what is to come can only be described probably as hell.

Isaac Layton Honestly it’s probably because it’s better to have the devil we know than the devil that lies behind everyone’s back and thinks it can get away with it clear as day. At least with America we can actually see the problems out right and we are allowed to say it. Say even the tiniest word that hints at something China doesn’t like and you’re out or locked up. That’s the difference. The trade deal with China was lined up while we were still thinking too much about economic‘s in post-Brexit Britain, when now the government FINALLY realises it really is just too much of a sacrifice for how terrible the CCP really is.

@Zoya L Well that’s once again left field. We all have the right to say what is happening in China whether they like it or not. We have to be brave about this. We live in a free society where we are allowed to say what we think, so we should use that to speak about the injustices in other countries as well as our own. If we don’t, then we are ourselves to blame for what could happen, and what IS HAPPENING right now to the Uighurs, Independence, freedom seekers and anyone else who is a minority in that country. Let alone the surrounding nations who’re also in trouble. Let alone Hong Kong which is just ripping a piece out of my heart every time we hear another update.

Isaac Layton I have no intention of deleting my comment and I standby it. When you said “murders our children” are you talking somehow about Americans killing ‘British people’ or them fighting in other countries like Iraq or Afghanistan or something like that? Because if not then I have no idea what you’re talking about. Also, as was said in my comment, I didn’t state that we don’t know what China is doing. They are indeed doing worse. I just said the difference was that at least America doesn’t try and ‘constantly deny’ what it has done wrong (both by the public and government officials pasts and present) while China constantly buries everything and gets rid of anyone who says otherwise. America is at least open to change, even if it is a very hard upward slope. Even us Brits can acknowledge that. Wild China is a different story altogether without actual military action. It’s sad, but true. Against the CCP, words are just a tiny gust of air.

Oooooh god, and to think it’s actually come to this now. Just goes to show after even all the good journalism he’s been doing over the years, that no one is safe. They’ve always looked really the other way to his reports as he usually doesn’t poke the bear as ‘severely’ as some others that might get them kicked out (although he has certainly come pretty close). I guess the pressure has been building on him and his team a lot more over these months than we thought. If it has truly come to this, it means another bastian of open reporting and true journalism has been restricted. China is licking their lips at this. I can’t even imagine what they will think they can get away with now that there are less people to publicly confront them. It really does feel like the only answer to the CCP is combat now. Words really do mean nothing to them and will do nothing to dissuade them from their eventual goals. Johns work really has exposed so much genuine truth in China and we can only hope that one day he will be able to return again to continue this brilliant work.

WHY!?

I’m glad it helped. I’m so sorry that things are like this for people under the CCP and hope that someday this will indeed change. Both for its regular citizens and those being oppressed. Hang in there.✊🏼 Let’s hope he is at least able to return to reporting in China someday.
