@mlcarey1000 Absolutely. modern day culture, especially in the west, which a lot of other countries now are very happy to accept, is that somehow slavery only existed in European and American colonies, when this isn’t true in the slightest. In fact, the whole history of it is quite disturbing to say the least, but it’s because it’s the most recent form that is the most well-documented that allows it to perpetuate as one that society is happy to hang onto to avoid complications of this linear narrative.

It may seem like a good idea on surface for reparations, but considering how much time has now passed, I really do feel like this is setting a very bad precedent for others going forward. It needs to remain an option for people to do, and ‘not’ something forced upon individuals and 100% not something for modern people to feel shame on. Otherwise then we risk the danger of there being prejudice, swinging in the other direction, which would also be unfair. Apologising should be fair though.

Very true really. Throwing money won’t change this. Now, we just need expectancy. And if we KNOW we can help with money and/or labour outside of just being some sort of reparations, and ‘want to help’, then all the better.
