I’m the same way. I’m a university student in my third year and would love to travel to Japan as part of work abroad or study abroad but being in the UK means that we currently can’t get any student or work visas due to the pandemic. It’s crushing so many dreams for so many people who wish to travel further a field. Fingers crossed that I can at least travel to the country next year. It would be so hard, but I would love to at least be able to work in Japan for a little while someday after learning the language and seeing whether it truly is the right fit for me when it comes to the balance of work life to personal life and the benefits to health.

That is so wonderful. Also it’s cool that your son was able to do Japanese as his foreign language in school. We don’t seem to have many if any foreign language courses available in school or college beyond the basics here in the UK that aren’t from European nations. We really should be taught Mandarin, Korean, Japanese or Russian. Even German seems to be sometimes missing from the curriculum. Foreign language courses really should be mandatory I feel now.

It seems i]like in the UK we still fight over the bill as well. It’s just that we seem to come to an understanding pretty fast and are more willing to pay than not pay.

That is a big shame. I’m surprised that many visitors would go and do that. I mean, yes, I can’t as of yet still read a single Japanese character or Kanji yet so I would still feel quite daunted about going into a place I didn’t have any English writings, but I would still take that leap especially if food was involved. Is it in Japan to experience its highly unique, healthy and delicious food is one of the heights of visiting the country, and would definitely wish to experience it when I visit someday soon. True though, it is easy to just walk around than trying to interact with people, and meeting new people with different experiences and getting experience in a language firsthand is one of the joys of visiting a country like this.
