I absolutely love it. We never should’ve gotten rid of national service in one form or another in the first place. I really hope this can come back. No more than ever. BW, I am not some old person. I am 28 years old. I definitely would’ve done national service and still wish I could join the army now. Medical condition why not BTW, but it’s one of those BS ones which is one of the causes for the military’s so few new qualifying applicants these days due to ever more stringent medical rules. Hopefully national service could perhaps slap some of this off. However, people need to remember once again this is ‘not’ all about the army. National service would cover a whole range of roles within the civilian sector. Many of the roles would be just like regular apprenticeship or basic first paid job roles that wouldn’t have anything to do with the MOD. Therefore it can only surely be a good thing in the long run for so many people who want opportunities like this to set them up for a better workplace experience starting point.

@maderleinethomas4213 Wonderful.👍🏼 Good on him. Glad he managed to get the best out of it. I wish I could’ve gotten the same. I’m 28 now, but still hope in the future for the reserves. I hope that many others can do the same going forward, especially for those who will eventually realise the benefits ‘once again’ of national service that do qualify for the military positions. It’s apparently only going to be about 30,000 people, so they will be wanting to get the best they can within those slots. Everybody else would be doing civilian style work.

@petyrkowalski9887 There is some truth to this. However, we follow rules in our society every single day and we don’t pick and choose which ones to obey. not unless you are a criminal or very stupid. Laws exist because they make sense (in the right society anyway). For the nations that have national service, of which there are a few wonderful ones), for them they are just another level of the laws that govern them and for them it still makes sense to have it. That’s why I don’t think for many, and frankly rightly so in many ways, they don’t view it as forced employment/labour as everybody does it. They see it simply as another level of the laws of the land and the duty of the citizens (including politicians) to obey them. That’s how I like to look at it too. I believe we need to bring this back to the UK again. BTW, I am not some pensioner. I am 28yo.

@sarahann530 People’s career in the army runs its course. It’s not something you are forced to stay in ‘forever’ you know. Some people stay for a couple of years, others for a decade or more or far far longer. It can either be a part of your life, or it is your life.
