Yeah he should definitely choose the destination next time.

Yeah, especially Japan. Which is a country that most people find it very hard to visit due to the high travel costs.

If I was to get a Japanese inner-city apartment, my biggest concern would definitely be noises from all of my neighbours. I can totally understand brick not being a common construction material at all for small residential housing, the better insulation should be an obvious thing by now. I’d imagine it would have to be a lot of the newer properties for you to be able to get one like that. Thanks for this video mate. Definitely answered a few more questions I had. It is a shame they don’t really have much sitting out front options at restaurants and drinking establishments. I’m betting it’s only really common in the most spaced out areas of the city where congestion is less of a problem or you are in the countryside.

I totally agree. The house clearly has a lot of charms and I’m betting was loved for a long time by its previous owner. Although the asking price is totally too high which is a surprise considering the house prices of old houses in Japan, it totally looks doable and I’m betting a lot of people with enough skills would be willing to take on the task of renovating it themselves. It feels like Japan is really trying to push itself into a corner here and doesn’t know how to get out, so it really seems like people in the west and those with the money on the outside of the only real solution to help fix this.
23
@OrbObserver Yeah I have a feeling that might be true. When you are around other British people you feel a lot safer to actually speak your mind and complain more as we are a lot less stiff about some things.😆
17
Couldn’t agree more. It’s hard enough I’m guessing for people who are from outside of Japan to make a living in the country. Let alone actually being successful to this extent. I hope he is able to maintain it to live a truly comfortable life here or wherever he may go next if he so chooses.
15
Thank you so very much for sharing your story to the world. That is quite amazing. I can only imagine that the last five years have flown by as if it were a dream or something!? It’s felt like that way for me at university anyway. I too have also been considering the JET program. It seems like a really good way of being able to get into Japan as well as possibly learning some more Japanese and getting a further job over there along the way. The only problem is that I’m not really qualified to do teaching and I really don’t feel like in my heart that is how I want to be spending my time over there rather than learning the language and go into a career that best suits me. Also Japan’s long working hours are quite prevalent in the careers I would most likely be suited to, so that will be a huge stab in the heart really. I still truly hope to be able to visit someday, and perhaps get a career that will suit me best and perhaps even move there for a few years. Just visiting once would never satisfy me. These videos as well by Chris have been a great eye-opener into Japanese culture and so many locations. It has inspired me to add money to my list places to visit in the country and I only hope I can have an experience there as rich as yours has been someday.
13
You don’t have to feel that way at all. The Target demographic, is anyone who just loves stuff like this. Especially if you love Japan. I’ll be watching these vids for years to come.
12
OH WOOOW. Now that is bloody cool.😲😆😎👌🏼👏🏼

I couldn’t agree more. Also, I’m 26 right now and going to turn 27 at the end of this year, And I’m really scared that my 30s are going to see cat only just as fast as this point of my life has since I turned 21. so much I want to do, but I’m scared of so much of it and just want to procrastinate and laze about instead. BUT, I know then I won’t achieve anything, so I really need to get the motivation to achieve my goals with the most energy I can while I still have it and try and take care of my body for the future, even if I just want to continue with my usual habits in food and drink as I do now which doesn’t seem to affect me. I know they will eventually, but it’s hard to believe. So much to do. Wish you and everyone else the best of luck on their journeys.

I guess we can put some of this down to being done in Japan who are very much perfectionists in their work. But also considering it was done by a professional film studio, I guess they are used to finding the necessary connections to get all the things needed for the interior space.

Well, this fiiinally answered my long help question of what on earth Pachinko actually is, and it turns out it's not too complicated after all. I didn't expect something which seems soooo Japanese to originally have its roots come from America though. A big surprise but wouldn't mind having a go at it someday.
8
@legitdoctor8293 Yep, sadly sounds about right.😞
6
God, this honestly makes me appreciate British TV, especially the BBC even more now. Japanese tv, except for Anime and films, looks like a damn nightmare. Do it… Bring Gordon Ramsay there. They need a good kick up the ass sometime. BRAKE THE MOULD.
6
We should all be soo lucky to have friends like that in our lives. Especially if you are living abroad in a country like Japan.
6
That’s really great to hear. Do you by any chance, as a person who has now gone through what so many of us wish to do eventually, have any particular advice for people visiting Japan for the first time? I wouldn’t mind checking out Tokyo but I’m more interested in the other cities in the countryside.
5
OMG I hadn’t considered that before. This totally felt a bit like a Top Gear episode, except a little bit more wholesome.
5
@jessicamilson9392 That’s cool. I hope we all get to visit someday.
5
That’s a wonderful story. It’s great to know that the people of Japan can be that courteous. Makes me feel a little bit more reassured if I ever get lost there.
4
@alexfrank5331 Weeeell, doesn’t change the fact that if you are Welsh or Scottish or English, you are still British.
4
Yep, sounds about right. LOL
2
I knew I had seen them somewhere before but I only realised later on in the video that they also have their own channel. I need to check it out again.
2
Can anyone recommend any good Japanese language learning applications, sites or apps? I would love to visit Japan either before or after the Olympics and might very well emigrate there someday so I think it would be great to try and get the best experience possible in learning the language.
2
I can only imagine how that must feel when you hear it for the first time.😆
2
@Y2Kr4SHM4N That sounds pretty cool. What kind of projects have you worked on in the past?
2
Oh deeear. :( That is hugely disappointing. I was just thinking that if I do ever get to go to this town someday when visiting Japan that I'd like to check this place out. It's such a huge shame that they had basically opened up only a relatively short amount of time before Covid hit. I'm sure the demand will be there again when far more visitors start coming back. I doubt this shop will ever reopen though, but other ones are sure to come along sooner or later.
2
It must have been really hard I bet to move away in the end. Why was it that you decided to move away from Japan in the first place? I understand it’s different for everyone but I’m just really curious if it was because of the nation itself all outside opportunities. Do you think you just want a holiday back to Japan or actually immigrate back?
2
Oh that’s very interesting. Good to know so it would be interesting to do a survey to see how many places truly do use contactless or just card payments in Japan. Germany I have heard is indeed quite slow on the contactless card usage. All of us in Britain find it very shocking and hard to believe, considering we would’ve thought Germany would be much more ahead of us on this.
2
Here here man. Right on. 👍🏼
2
@T0NI_ Makes me really want to be a YouTuber sometimes. Although I have no idea what I would showcase and that I could put in the necessary commitment to make enough money on the side without it taking up too much time and feeling like a drain on myself.
2
Yeah, those two words just don’t seem to come together. Lol

@SteelKatanas OY😠😂😂

That amusement park really was a sad thing to witness and felt really melancholy at the same time. Same goes for the hotel but in a slightly different way. Mainly because it seems so normal over there now. If these places are to be abandoned, they could very well at least clear up the place to allow nature to come back properly. It’s not just sad but also a waste of resources.
1
That’s so unfair. What’s the point of just cramming a bunch of information that you’re never probably going to use when you should focus on more of the practical side of actually ‘doing the language’? 😞 no wonder they always want English teachers from other countries to come in and help. Although I certainly wouldn’t mind doing that.
1
It is absolutely appalling that the government would even allow buildings like this to be destroyed in the first place. I know Japan has always been eager to more so embrace the new in architecture, despite contradictorily being stuck in its cultural norms, but I’m really surprised Japan hasn’t adopted a grading system like the UK has four different listing statuses for old sites and buildings outside of just national buildings and monuments. We can only hope that this happens sooner rather than later. For now, it’s good to see that some people actually taking up the challenge of giving these beautiful old buildings and new lease of life for 21st-century people.
1
Yep that’s sooo us.😆
1
Ooooh yes I remember this documentary. It was recommended to me just under a year ago and it’s still on my to watchlist on Amazon Prime. It definitely looks quirky but still looks like one I would enjoy. I’m glad I’ve watched your video here now before watching that documentary first. Will probably help to add a little bit more funny context to it.😆👌🏼
1
The quality of his presentation and production is so great. It really is up that along with the very best that YouTube has to offer. Let alone on other streaming platforms. This seems to be quite consistent with a lot of channels that are linked to Japan.
1
Yeah I can definitely feel it but I’m glad he’s at least trying his best and ‘definitely’ doing better than a lot of people we’ve seen in the past.
1
Honestly is this a really cool hotel room, but like Harrison to all the other YouTube videos I’ve seen of hotels around the world, this one actually does the quite basic by comparison. The furnishings are nothing to wow about, The colours aren’t that impressive and a lot of the appliances from the fridge to the coffee machine seem quite standard like that you could actually get in a regular home rather than the more plush glass front alcohol fridges you can usually get. The biggest things that really stands out for me that makes the room so great is its size, the massive dining table and some of the nice coloured wood panelling.
1
There is no way you could beat this. The nostalgia in this place is just personified. The studio that put this together truly put in all of their effort and then some. I can’t wait to start watching your future episodes set in this space.😎👏🏼👌🏼 You could try doing a special guest of the month or something like that. I’m sure a lot more people would love to come along from the entertainment industry to actually check the set out for themselves.
1
Oooooh. Cool thanks
1
This is very true. I hate, for example that this is happening more and more in London. However, at least in London, they actually try to explore unique architectural shapes to compensate for the removal of unique areas or the increasingly obscure skyline. From what I’ve seen of Tokyo, it looks like they haven’t bothered with this and just keep adding more basic shapes like something from a Lego set never ending Lee because it’s the cheapest thing to do. There’s never any real money invested in exteriors, only the minimalist interiors, and it is a drain on the soul. I really do feel that if Japan actually invest in bringing in more foreign architects, this could be prevented.
1
Okinawa is definitely one of the top places I want to visit in Japan someday. It’s quite a ways away from Tokyo (even by train for me) so instead of travelling through Japan and then eventually flying there, I would probably just go straight there instead after enjoying the capital or Kyoto a bit. Just goes to show you really can’t enjoy the best bits of the country as a whole in one trip, no matter how long it is. You really need to go multiple times (for those who can damn well afford it😓😔) or try living there. And the latter just brings up struggles of its own. Either way though, Okinawa would be such a pristine experience that would really warm my heart. Not least because of the sun and pristine waters.😁 Maybe I’ll just quit my future prospects and just become a boat driver, local restaurant worker or work at a tack/equipment shop there or something! Lol
1
It’s killing US, and Japan itself in the long run.
1
This was a really good video. Honestly it went by way faster than I would have expected. I so want to do a road trip across Japan someday outside of public transport, even if it might be slower at times. It seems like on a whole driving in Japan and owning a car might not be that bad. At least if you intend to do a lot of driving outside of a city or it isn’t needed.
1
Here here. You need the beeeeach.😁 It’s amazing though that they really are as beautiful as they seem in Anime. They weren’t kidding about that part.😌
1
I get exactly what you mean. It feels like on television in Japan it’s always one thing or the other, and in the west one documentary will focus on one thing well completely ignoring the other and vice versa. It feels like only on YouTube are things ever truly balanced with how things really are.
1
Yeah I intend to learn Japanese, or at least I hope I can actually motivate myself to do so if I can’t get a course on it, but I definitely don’t look forward to the kanji part. That’s going to just destroy my mind.
1
Yiiiiiiikes😲😣😂 They’re so helpful.
