  1. It is absolutely appalling that the government would even allow buildings like this to be destroyed in the first place. I know Japan has always been eager to more so embrace the new in architecture, despite contradictorily being stuck in its cultural norms, but I’m really surprised Japan hasn’t adopted a grading system like the UK has four different listing statuses for old sites and buildings outside of just national buildings and monuments. We can only hope that this happens sooner rather than later. For now, it’s good to see that some people actually taking up the challenge of giving these beautiful old buildings and new lease of life for 21st-century people.
