This was a good interview. It’s a relief to know that these options are still available to people even outside of Tokyo. I mean, I’m not sure if I would be able to go to Japan as a student now that I have just graduated this year from university, and I might have to think more about my finances unfortunately versus just going along for education to learn the language, but still want to give it a try. Want to see if I can do some sort of hybrid for it. Definitely want to learn how many options there are in Japan for getting a job and learning Japanese at the same time.

Wow, thank you for informing us of this. I’m quite shocked that even Sydney would be so expensive. I mean, I know it was a lot of people, but I think it would actually be more expensive than Osaka is amazing. we always keep hearing that Japan is really really expensive, and it can be in Tokyo, but I’m really shocked by looking at these comparisons, but in fact London and other big cities are actually more expensive. I guess it’s just most likely the stigma that’s just been petrol waited due to the work life balance issue also present in Japan. I’m guessing it’s not so much a case that that Tokyo and Osaka are really expensive, but more likely the pay level for a lot of jobs in Japan which isn’t necessarily a lot. I have heard that Osaka is a better place to be for rent and food, and I have heard that there are a lot of big companies and brands there as well, so if I was to try working in Japan, it does feel like that city is indeed a possibility.

Yeah same here. I’ve just graduated from university in the UK, and life is coming at me hard full of uncertainty, but I would dearly love still to actually try studying in Japan someday to learn the language in a more immersive setting as well as perhaps some further education in a career of my choice, if life back home doesn’t stop me from doing so. Eventually even try actually living in Japan. I have no idea if a career of my choice would be compatible with an industry in Japan considering the working life versus free time culture, but I do dearly want to give it a try and this certainly helps.

@jw841 SAY WHAAAAAT? Hello there Jaime, fellow Brit here. I had always heard that Japan was insanely expensive, so never really considered it, but it’s crazy to think that place like Tokyo might actually be cheaper than London. I heard that Osaka was cheaper though than Tokyo, plus there are apparently a lot of big name companies that potentially I could work for based on my possible future career. You mention the cost of living though? What kind of work do you do that allows you to be able to stay there, if you don’t mind me asking? because I feel like people say that it can be cheaper, but then gloss over how much they actually might be earning at the job, making it still harder. I want to try moving to Japan, but I’m really really scared that if I was to work there then they would demand way more hours than they would ever ask from me in the UK or the rest of Europe and it would lead me to become mentally unbalanced and depressed and ruin my experience. I don’t want to move to Japan because of the job experience, but actually try living in Japan and see if it is a better quality of life for me and so that I can actually live the life I want. Would you say this is actually possible or do you feel that as a person who is living in Japan that that work life balance is still very hard?

@haha-eg8fj Yes I have heard this to be true. Apparently they said that Japan has to import a lot of its fruit due to the fact that Japan doesn’t have a lot of open space available for mass crop growth that we are used to in other countries, so they prioritise on quality and as a result the price is much higher. I do feel like they can fix this in the future with top-down farming technology to get more fruit and vegetables out of a limited space, but until they actually adopt that en masse this will just have to be how it is.

@charlespatrick8650 Same question. here in the UK at least, outside of London, you can rent or lodge a place for just under or just over £400 a month. Some places though, especially if it’s renting, don’t include the bills in that, but you might be able to do some of them if you are lucky. I’m a student, or actually a graduate now😞 and the prices have varied greatly from one student available house to the next. i’d love to try living in Tokyo, but Osaka sounds just as nice. After that try living somewhere else more in the countryside.
