  1. ULEZs. Love them. WE NEED THEM, whether some people like them or not. Those people saying it’s a money grab are only half right. Yes, it will get more money from the taxpayers, but it’s not going to be continuous profits. When people truly switch over to EV is in public transport, the amount of money coming in is predicted to massively plummet after or within the first five years. This money can be used and is intended to be used to help install more charging points and other forms of green infrastructure, that people in London have been begging for in the first place. And to ‘those who say they can’t afford an electric car’… Well, can you even afford a petrol/diesel car that’s new to begin with anyway? How is this any different? You are just making excuses. At least now you will actually be investing is something that is worth investing in and won’t pollute the environment long term or your lungs, and will probably be better quality than what you were already driving. Sorry, but not sorry. Sacrifices have to be made, but in the end, this one will actually be something you will not regret in the long-term, once you make that leap.

  2. It’s meant to put people off using combustion vehicles as much as possible within these areas, obviously. It’s also meant to act more as an incentive to people who are being too lazy or stubborn and actually finally transition over to NEV. There are so many vehicle options out there now, with many financial and package deals now to make these more affordable or monthly payments that people just haven’t bothered looking up relying on previous assumptions. The money raised will very much go down most likely within the first 5 years according to even the governments own predictions as the eligible vehicles to be charged will go down. The money used is intended to pay for new charging points, as well as more clean infrastructure areas to make it easier for even more electric vehicles and public transport to access areas of the cities.

  3. I couldn’t agree with you more. These people complaining about ULEZ are just making ridiculous excuses now in any way they can to avoid getting electric vehicles or making the compromise to switch to public transport. We need to make this transition whether some people like it or not. I’m not rich in any way, but I fully intend to invest even with monthly payments to get myself a small nippy Electric vehicle, like perhaps a secondhand, mini TV or Honda-E. We cannot push the benchmark forward beyond 2030, when we are supposed to be banning the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles in the UK.
