Here here. Operating on commands from the very top and not being able to work as a cohesive group down at the bottom of the ranks is a Russian thing. Ukrainian troops have been trained by US, UK and other Western armies to be able to work independently in smaller units so they actually know what to do so now they would expect volunteers to be able to do the same now.

It’s a bit annoying really because some groups in France are training individuals basic military tactics for training, arms usage and manoeuverability, but I haven’t heard about any such thing happening in the UK. If people intend to head over to Ukraine then they should really be groups willing to train people in the UK to give them a Headstart on possible training that could save their lives. I for one would sign up in an instant if I knew there was one but every time I try to search for them it always just goes down a rabbit hole of Internet sites that don’t lead to anything concrete that are even anywhere near me.

Thankfully many have done that anyway. Like he said, he switched over to the humanitarian side instead.

Here here. Many people are bound to be disjointed if this was their first experience of any kind of combat, but it is surprising how many veterans are still complaining about it when they themselves, even though they fought against terrorists in very dry countries, have never actually fought in a war between two countries where many people charging or moving on mass as an enemy is the norm. These aren’t terrorists in just one building where you move in a sort of swat manner where you surround the building and order in an airstrike by a military drone this is real war where unfortunately hundreds of people dying and sometimes a weekly basis is completely normal and we have forgotten that through decades of peace in Europe and only being involved in regional conflicts. If we had fighters from the Vietnam days involved in this war they would actually understand what was goingOwn and would be more prepared for it. In a wall like this, you should consider yourself grateful for what you have got considering how fast the Legion has been organised. Plus, like most cases during peacetime, you hear more about the bad things that happen than about the good things that happened behind closed doors that maintain the wobbly piece we have decade after decade. The bad things that happened around the world scream a lot louder than the good as they are not always right in your face. People who are unsatisfied or have a worse time at things generally stand out more from the crowd if they are not among the norm, so as you have said with your cousin, he’s probably one among hundreds or thousands that are just accepting this is the kind of thing to expect from a war between nations, which makes sense, while those who aren’t prepared to accept that are going to stamp their feet more.

@urbanimage Exactly. Especially as many of these people who are complaining, who are only a few tiny voices among the thousands who have headed over to Ukraine, headed over in the first few days or weeks of the foreign Legion even been created, so what did they expect. Plus it’s also different unit between unit depending on who got the equipment first and where they are positioned in the country. This divide was inevitable unless you can sign up with some groups to have a Quitman shipped to you directly, which many have done both for native Ukrainians and foreign fighters who have gotten many pieces of kit sent to them for free.

Yes it is a very good point. Both about the true experience of what a real war is like, plus the whole thing with pay. It would make sense that if it was a three year contract in fact then you would actually be paid for it. After all if it was just three months then people might just be popping in to do a short tour and a little bit of money, but if you are doing three long years then they can know that the person is going to be sticking to the role and is worthy of being paid for it.

I still appreciate all of those who have gone over to fight and I myself hope to be able to head over to Ukraine in the coming months to volunteer for perhaps delivering necessary aid or perhaps military equipment. There are bound to be many people who are disgruntled with the actual experience of a real war that we haven’t had in Europe for many decades, so it makes sense that even the professionals would be disjointed and experiencing something they haven’t experienced before that is frankly the norm for an International war. However these voices are only a few of the many thousands who have headed over, so we will probably get a full of picture only after the war is nearing its end.
