EXACTLY. It makes absolutely no sense we didn’t start doing this for multiple hours every night past 9 or 10pm years ago. Towns have been doing it for years so I don’t understand why the cities can’t. It’s not like it’s going to hurt their international image or something. If anything it will help.

Really!? Are you serious!? This is a wonderful thing they’ve done. I’ve been wanting them to do this for years now and had no idea they had planned to do it for tonight. It’s a great first step to hopefully one day making sure they do this every night for the whole night except for the main entertainment areas. We don’t need all these excess lights and they do nothing but keep people up for longer, mess with the sleeping and waking patterns of wildlife and cause light pollution. Let alone the energy demands on our power grid. This is a great (but tiny for now) significant first step towards this change.

You do realise right but you can clearly tell all important lights are still on!? In fact, it even looks like still many of the vanity lights to show off some buildings are still on. All essential street and traffic lights are still running. It’s just that all the ones that are designed to illuminate and show off areas of the city are turned off. It’s a great idea and we need to push it to run all the time from now on. Preferably at later hours past 9pm, with areas like Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square being the exception for a few extra hours.

Honestly, at this stage in our environmental damage it doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Feels like a worthy punishment for ours despicable race.

Well that’s a bit of an overreaction!😆

Okay, now this is gorgeous. This, THIS IS HOW THE CITY SHOULD LOOK AT NIGHT AAALL THE TIME (Piccadilly Circus can be the one exception for a few earlier hours). We don’t need all of these ridiculous amounts of lights. They are all just excess ones that do nothing but show of buildings. Nothing more. They don’t have any other additional practical purpose. All lights needed for helping people to see around the city are clearly still on. THAT’S ALL YOU NEED. The rest are just a pointless vanity fair that we shouldn’t buy into anymore. If we can make sure this works for the rest of the city perhaps people will actually be able to see the stars more clearly again. This was a great thing they did last night. One small step. Really deserves more coverage than this.

Honestly it doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Although when they hopefully do make sure that this happens for multiple hours every night after thirdly 10 pm they make sure that although external decorative lighting is off, internal lighting is still very much accessible by the public. I’m just joking around there of course. I’m all in favour of this but I obviously know that they are not going to cut the power for the general public. We do need to reduce massively external vanity lighting though.
