Yep. Never going into a US hospital if I ever visited that forsaken country. Even if you paid me, because most likely would end up costing me even more.

The answers by the public up in Scotland here in these interviews certainly are heartbreaking.😔 I wouldn’t have thought they would be so massively negative towards it. In my eyes, as a 28yo rational thinker, National Service is something we never should’ve gotten rid of and is desperately needed again. All the other countries who have it say they definitely wouldn’t want to get rid of it. We are definitely missing something. People just aren’t used to the idea anymore, but once they get used to it, whether they like it or not, they will accept it. Most of all because of reason, people they stubborn minds, can’t seem to graph the very simple fact that this national service Would not have anybody joining the army. How dumb can you be to just ignore the numbers. The policy would require approximately 30,000 people to join a reserve force and those would be the best people to fit it so we can still maintain a high-quality force for now. Everybody else will be doing volunteer style positions in jobs and roles across the country. Jobs that wouldn’t even be potentially connected to the army. WHAT’S WRONG WITH THAT? I thought we were trying to encourage that sort of thing in our society?! I desperately hope the Tories can get this through.

Wow. Your sentence is very heartbreaking here. Not least because it isn’t entirely true, it’s also very misinformed. This national service is designed to only get the best people to join the reserve forces and that number is aiming to get about 30,000 people. The rest would be doing the equivalent of volunteer roles but paid and those roles wouldn’t even be necessarily connected to the army. They could be a simple as cleaning or waiting jobs. Yes, ‘cleaning jobs’. It’s literally the kind of thing they are looking at. Not exactly sending your wee wee little kiddos to go and fly fighter jets.😓 People really need to put this into perspective. What the Tories are doing here is exactly what people have been begging government to do for decades. Apprenticeship style roles with a bit of a slap on the back to get people going and will prepare people more for regular job roles in the future with a bit more motivation and self determination/belief. It’s freaking obvious. It really just blows my rational mind how soo many people can be soo scoffing and negative about it because they continue to maintain the stereotypical, inaccurate images in their mind without actually doing any research. I see that sadly with basically everybody who was interviewed here. People actually need to look up the facts before spurting out nonsense.

@christianmccann9400 No, just a different opinion to yours. I am just trying to not allow my emotions to control everything and be more rational and practical.

Absolutely. Even if some of us have to pay it in our taxes, it’s so small and negligible really, but it really doesn’t feel that much at all. And the fact that it all adds up eventually to a huge pile of money for eeeeveryone makes it all worth it.

WTF. Now that’s the most insane thing. I think I’ve heard all day. People thinking National Service is slavery. Banging my head against the wall. Do people think that the people of Sweden, Finland and South Korea are slaves??? Because they all have different levels of national service and they absolutely would not want to get rid of it for multiple reasons. The UK simply shouldn’t have gotten totally rid of it. If we still had it, much like the NHS verses private hospitals, we wouldn’t want to do away with it. It’s just a scary transition, that is all. I welcome it.
