  1. I am wondering why you came to rescue dozens of squirrels . My question is not why you rescue them but how come you live in an area where dozens of squirrel need rescue. What do they need rescue from ? What is happening to them that so many of them need being rescued . And finally from a veterinarian and ethologist (i am both) point of view , you might want to avoid let the squirrels lick pr eat the skin of the avocado or any other veggies as these are treated, sprayed with chemicals and the skin if licked can be quite toxic. Also these adorable animals are a little (read, a lot) overfed , you need to control the calorie intake of they won't live long. Avocado is VERY fattening and squirrels in the wild do not have access to it so you might want to stick to the kind of food they are more likely to find in their natural habitat , and if you need to buy that food , make sure it is organic . I am REALLY not trying to be the bad guy here and you and your husband are my heroes for taking care of animals this way . But i have to give you a medical and professional opinion , but it comes from a good place , i only want the best for you and your babies, and them to have a long and healthy life . Keep up the good work , you guys are terrific , and if you could tell me why so many squirrels in your are need rescue , that would be nice of you . And please put them on a diet , those babies are too fat ! All the best .

  3.  @silureswarrior6045  You should read also about the Japanese Yatagarasu, the three legged Raven or Crow. The three legged Raven is actually a symbol dating back to ancient Egypt, Ancient Japan, Ancient China, Northern Africa and most of the Middle East. It is a very powerful symbol . Which is why i had it tattooed on my back.

  5. I run shelters which i opened many years ago , and i refuse more adoption than i agree with . It is usually a ratio of 2 Yes, you can adopt this cat or dog, to 20 No, sorry i think you need to rethink the idea of adopting animals i don't believe you are ready. Everybody who wishes to adopt an animal from the shelters goes through a very thorough examination, and even the people who are granted the right to adopt pets from our shelters have to report every two weeks for the first year , every month for the next year and every two months for the following year and finally visit the clinic at least twice a year for checkups and shots, and as a veterinarian i also pay visits to make sure everything is ok with the adopted ones. Plus you have to be living within a 20km radius to adopt so i can check on the animals . On the other hand all shots and checkups are free for life at our clinic for the adopted pets. I have 5 kids (all adopted) and through the process of adopting them was very litigious and tedious , it made perfect sense so we (I am married to another vet) decided to do exactly the same with animals at our shelters.

  8. @easton thayn This is not your field . Just because you pay money on them , doesn't make them yours in regard of nature. For birds these fields are food and you should let birds and other animals take their share as a just form of compensation for you taking over THEIR natural habitat. If you think in terms of property as a way to justify your actions toward other animals , then you are sure to fail both in term of your agricultural exploitation (what a fitting term) and as a human being who belong to nature much more than (you think) nature belongs to you.

I have 5 kids and many cats (MANY) , my oldest cat came long before the kids and she is still my favorite , and by favorite i mean , she comes before anything and anyone else, which includes , partner and kids. There is nothing on this planet i love more than my cat Artemis , She is very old now , i found her on the street in Japan when i loved there , she then moved to England back with me , then a while in Iceland , and now in Switzerland , The day she dies , i will be devastated for years . For the record i am a veterinarian and ethologist (i worked with wild animals for a long time) , married to another vet and we run animal shelters as well, so our lives revolves completely around animals . We have over 30 cats as pets plus the ones in the shelters and 11 dogs, plus the ones in the shelters , horses , ponies, donkeys, cows, rabbits, hens and roosters , ducks, swans, crows, ravens, eagles, falcons, owls, alpaca, wolves, monkeys , bears , plus the more exotic animals , like monkeys and reptiles a jaguar, a panther and a lynx all rescued from many places, abusive owners, slaughterhouses, fur, skin and feather factories, farms, really bad zoos, breeders, movie set , med labs, etc .... but at the end of the day , Artemis is the one i love the most .
