@Baalthazaq EU is an economic union, not a country or a continent

@Baalthazaq To give u an idea since you lack coherence, imagine that Peru (Georgia in our example) was officially classified as part of North America, but Brazil (Turkey in our example) which is geographically further north is classified as being in South America. It is not logically consistent. It's completely arbitrary, with clear & obvious political boundaries ensconced within the rationale rather than geography.
1
@Baalthazaq Of course we'd be applying terms equally. I've made it clear that consistency is key when describing the classification as arbitrary. If YOU wish to be even handed then u should classify Armenia, Georgia, Cyprus and Russia as middle eastern if u insist that Turkey is. What if Turkey's EU accession goes ahead? Even though no borders would have changed, you will change your classification because you've been told to
1
@Baalthazaq The Ottoman empire had a completely different boundary! I don't know if you're being silly or disingenuous. "When the lines are redrawn, the definition changes" Except the lines (country borders) will not have changed, nor is there any requirement for them to change for EU accession. These are imaginary lines in the heads of politicians. Geography should be the only determinant since politics are temporal

@Baalthazaq Again, the EU is an economic union that is synonymous with, but is not the same thing as Europe. Do not confuse Europe with EU. For example, Britain is a European country, but is NOT part of the EU.

@Baalthazaq you're just ceding to authority, which isn't an argument in and of itself. it's actually fallacious. there is no problem with defining Turkey as middle eastern, so long as the ukraine, russia, georgia, cyprus etc. are also classified as such because they are as far east as turkey is. In the case of Georgia and Russia, both are further east than turkey. the lines you're talking about are not geographical but political. look at a map

@Baalthazaq "I was asking if you did" - Yours was a statement not a question. Perhaps u mean that u meant to ask. "Longitude" - There we go. I've only been alluding to it since making mention of countries further east than Turkey. Any agreed upon definition using longitudinal lines I would be happy with. Countries east of any "middle eastern" (wherever we define it) nation should not be "European". Concluded; Adios

@Baalthazaq "using the term middle east to mean China." I said no such thing, nor did i imply it. Strawman much? "Fruitbat"

@Baalthazaq The UK is not fully integrated in the same way that Germany and France are. UK has full control over their own currency unlike those who've adopted the Euro. Norway and Switzerland I Concede would have been better examples of non-EU European countries, but certainly the point still stands.

@Baalthazaq They were answered indirectly with the Peru/Brazil example
