minidisc was outdated even in 2000

@annother3350 In 2000, the market already had several portable mp3 players that interfaced with windows. By 2001 the ipod was released which could hold 1000 songs. Minidisc was barely any better than buying a portable CD player and ripping your own songs to CD-R via your PC. I used to buy a whole spindle of discs (25+ CDs) for the price of 3 minidiscs.

@annother3350 i think a cheap CD-R 5.25" bare internal (for PC) was about £150 in 1999 and discs were about 50p each. one minidisc was £4+, and mini disc players cost about as much as a bare internal CD-R drive

@annother3350 everybody was buying CD-R drives for data backup and transferral anyway, so "we already bought those". Infinitely more useful than a minidisc player. 50p discs love
