  3.  @univeropa3363  HDI is a multi-factor index that assesses material standing. Much better than using GDP per capita, which is pretty worthless for gauging wealth of the average household. Russia is ranked 56th, USA is 20th. Russia is 4 places above Trinidad.

  4.  @KolyaUrtz  Russian arts exist to keep boredom away from high level politicians, oligarchs and rich folk; the patrons of said arts. Not really a middle-class pursuit. Crime and Punishment is overrated, just a story about how killing your land lady will make you sad, and that's Dostoevsky's magnum opus. The greatest accomplishments of Russian scientists and engineers is building a top tier killing machine: the Russian military. No interstate highway equivalent, no Maglev trains running through the country; a collection of remote towns and villages is Russia. Thanks to Communism there is no spirituality; a difficult thing to acquire once you've gone through decades of state sanctioned atheism.
