@Frank.and.Beanzz but the public's opinion of politicians the world over is replete with cynicism and distrust. I think the voters know, BUT, they have weak spots for immigration and a hatred of other poor people, despite being poor themselves. The best quote I've seen for this seeming contradiction is: "socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires" -John Steinbeck I think it holds true in ersatz America, aka the UK
