Govt removes from circulation its "income" (taxes), it is not re-spent. Treasuries DO NOT finance fiscal expenditure, the Govt can spend fiscally without issuing one treasury. He doesn't understand fiscal mechanics. 0:45 – Blaming COVID for 13 years of decline is asinine because no one else is taking this long to recover. 0:54 – Fiscal spending is NOT “borrowing”. Not one penny of Govt fiscal spending is paid for by borrowing; he is mixing up monetary policy with fiscal policy. Fiscal spending is literally new money created by Govt, and it is seldom inflationary. 2:32 – A budget “deficit” is an INCREASE in private sector INCOMES. Fiscal deficits are necessary since an ongoing long-term surplus would sink the economy into a deep depression. Moreover, the Tories set a new record over COVID for highest deficit of all time, in all history.
