@bladestarX The USA can't cancel outstanding treasury liabilities or the fiscal deficit. The former would be a formal declaration of bankruptcy, and the latter would be the deepest recession you've ever seen. There doesn't need to be a world reserve currency, but the ongoing de-dollarisation, which will continue unabated, makes sanctions LESS effective, not more (you cannot weaponise the dollar against a party who's not using it, or uses it minimally). "US and Europe have self-sufficient domestic economies" ------ that's abject nonsense, considering all the minerals and other natural resources being mined/extracted in Africa and Asia for Western consumers. The West also deindustrialised (meaning it needs Asian production), and you can't wave a wand to get back your industrial base back in the next decade or two. There isn't even the political will to do it, so they are boiling frogs. There is a tacit admission by large American banks (in coming up with the BRICS acronym in the first place) that the next dominant continent after N. America will be Asia. The belt and road initiative can give Africa options they've never had with international trade.
