BloodOfYeshuaMessiah It's not an explanation to say "god did it". If I say my cobbler made my shoes, I'm not elucidating the shoe making process.

Drudenfusz except people in the theist and atheist groups BOTH cling to science, but they're both guilty of dogma. Theists say "science proves religion" yet it does no such thing. Atheists claim "hurr durr there is no scientific evidence for the claim of there being a deity", except science is not the tool for this discussion. It's a philosophical or spiritual question. Nothing to do with our material reality. If we ever find god (whatever the hell that even means) it won't be through the scientific method. The bigger question is: is the discussion of any use/utility/benefit?

***** Apparently you are your own deity if you suppose everything outside of the observable universe exists in your (fairly lacking) brain.

Christopher Keene actually his position is agnostic. Atheist isn't waiting for evidence like the agnostic, he says there is no god. The atheist isn't open minded, he simply says there is no deity. BY DEFINITION

therrydicule The material universe is the observable universe, i.e being unable to observe a thing doesn't negate the potential for its existence. This extends beyond the question of god and what we can know (as opposed to what we can't). As for political power being sullied by religious dogma, you'll have no resistance from me, since I am as secular as they come where it pertains to the business of governance.

Pete Mc L It's a different thing entirely to say: "there is definitely a god" to "i believe it's possible that some sort of deity, is to some degree, a feasible possibility". Atheists are just as dogmatic on this point as theists.

ChristianIce "Atheism is not the position of who claims "there is no god"." & "Atheists just don't believe there is one" Look at you, twisting in the wind, tripping over yourself, and going against the very definition of the word as well as contradicting yourself

Bruce Leeroy "You are an agnostic atheist" Those two positions are mutually exclusive. Agnosticism is the belief that nothing can be known regarding the nature of god(s). Atheists simple claim there is no deity (of any description). Stark difference.
