I grew up with universial healthcare - I needed surgery as an infant, my sibling was an emergency c-section, and my mother has a condition that requires lifelong medication. Since then I've been hospitalised several times with serious injuries. Imagine the debt we'd be under had we been living in the USA. We wouldn't have been able to get a house and pay for education with that hanging over our heads. Best case scenario we'd have been poor but covered by medicaid or whatever, but never able to have a better life. You can tell me "oh but the quality would have been so much better in America", but would it really? An MRI machine is the same on either side of the Atlantic, antibiotics are the same chemical formula. What do you get that I don't? Arguably, better cancer treatment - but with such a high cancer rate in the USA I'd rather take my chances here. Whatever the pitfalls are, sounds better than losing several month's pay if I get hurt. I'd be homeless in your country by this point.
