Africa is home to a huge variety of nations and cultures, and the refusal to acknowledge this has directly led to massive numbers of African people getting killed. To say "nah, they're all just one big blob called 'black'" is fucked up. American Black culture on the other hand, was invented in what is now the USA. It had to be invented, because the people who invented it were not allowed to take their original culture with them. Slaves had been forced to forget all aspects of whatever culture they were originally from. But it's not an 'African' culture - no African nation is like that. Anyway, to answer your original question: Why do you think Belgian chocolates are associated with Belgium? Why do you think we associate Mongolian throat singing with Mongolia? What about Kpop? The answer is that we typically associate things with the place where they were first popularised.
