Even if we all started becoming socialists tomorrow, that wouldn't by itself change anything. People need to be organised. So, join an organisation! Your main priority right now is to develop your own knowledge and abilities. Then, years from now, you'll be able to teach others. Not just about politics, but the act of organisation too. And if it sounds like a lot, remember that nobody expects you to carry out the revolution yourself. Just do what you can, and in five years you'll be surprised at how much you can do.

Lenin did have some kind of democratic mandate, there were elections of some kind after the revolution. Had anarchists respected this and sided with the socialists during the civil war it could have been avoided. I don't plan to die on the "lenin did nothing wrong hill" but this was a genuinely life-or-death situation for everybody involved. " when you create a vanguard party it creates a class distinction between the leaders and the proletariat" I understand what you're saying here, but consider: Just because there's a revolution doesn't mean class distinctions disappear. There will still be a 'capitalist class' in the aftermath. People who already had resources and authority over those around them. There is no way to challenge this without exerting authority somehow.

One day the difference in society will be between communists and socialists. But until then it's capitalists against socialists. Communism isn't on the menu - there's no way to arrive at such a state under present conditions.
