I'm just so happy to know that somewhere in the world, a robot built from scrap is rolling around underneath some professor's house, fetching little glass bottles for him.

I am just so happy this guy exists

I find ancient math pretty interesting, but how on earth did WE figure out how the Babylonians counted?
2
Millions of people would die.

Do hospitals fill up every time a flu goes around? Delete this.

There's a mobius loop, objection overruled!

Hey, two can't be the bare minimum! What about one?

I feel a little guilty that these are my favourite numberphile videos..

I was first told about this problem about ten years ago, and I am sorry to say it still makes no sense at all. In my head, every zonk you reveal just decreases the denominator by one, eventually leaving you with a 1/2 probability. And how come we get to "push" the excess probability onto the door you didn't pick? That seems arbitrary. Why doesn't it get equally distributed?
1
For a moment I was confused, and I thought "Why didn't you just code it yourself if you wanted to prove it?" Then I realised that of course, getting computer time was pretty rare back then! So weird to think about.

I CANNOT WAIT for the wonderful mathmatics of lenses

Elwyn doesn't pull any punches, goddamn

Oh wow, I had so many of these books. Tried to convert this one to a BASIC text adventure game, but I couldn't get the dice rolls to work.

I had no idea about the Nero connection, very informative!

I live in the UK and I always used mississipi, I didn't know what the Mississipi was though.

He's still right in the sense that you have been using philosophy all this time. This makes your disregard of the field somewhat awkward.
1
Then how do you explain the fact that time flows faster here on earth than it does out in space? You are aware that the GPS was specifically designed to take the differences in time into account right?
1
I give Matt's review 9.9999999/10

Windows Media Player? For shame Professor!
1
So bigger cities use their infrastructure and resources more efficiently? This is really interesting stuff, weird how it applies to so many things.
1
Well good, I was being facetious

Is that LENINADE on the window there
1
Numberphile should start the movement that brings us back to the good old ways
1
This is pretty astounding, had no idea mechanical calculators could be so good. On a related note, saw Alex's book in the library! Gonna check it out.

Hi Josh Human beings are more important than an economy that only serves the ruling class anyway
1
Well like the video says, it's more efficient, and this makes the species more successful. It's just evolution.

When I was little, days of the week had colours. All I can remember is that Mondays were pale blue, Wednesdays were yellow and Saturday/Sunday were both this sort of brown. I can't remember when it stopped but it was pretty cool while it lasted.
1
No really, if you're smart enough to use a computer you've been using philosophy all this time. There's honestly no way you can contradict this, and by doing so all you're doing is telling me that you don't understand the words.
1
Brady is suprisingly as good in front of the camera as he is behind it
1
It's this guy again! Yay! Kind of put off learning French now that I know how hard counting is. What's German like?
1
So this is where the rebels got those deathstar plans!
