Sam Walton actually paid for a study to be done on the economic impact of walmart on local communities, and he fully expected it would show a big benefit. it did not. it showed an immediate uptick in town revenue... followed quickly by a precipitous decline as all the small business the walmart outcompeted folded up shop and left. to his credit, he did not challenge the study. I wonder if he actually realized what he had done though.
