wait... blizzard starting pay for off-hours work was 10.50... in 2009??!! holy sht!. starting pay at our indie game dev was 24.00... in 1996! I was making 27.00 to start and 65.00 by the time I had been working there for 2 years. 10.50 has to have been at or below minimum wage in California in 2009. ugh.

...looked it up. nope, minimum wage was still 8.00 in California at the time. I think the US lost any realistic definition of what "minimum wage" was supposed to mean. Evidently, it was redefined in this century to mean "the bare minimum we can get away with paying you so you don't go to work at McDonalds instead". It certainly isn't enough money to live on. not even close.
