The problem with tattooing in South Korea is that the medical law simply does not make any exceptions, which means you need a license to do it. However, that's a license for medicine. It would therefore be good if laws were changed and they created a license specifically for tattooing. It's something which would benefit both tattoo artists and customers.

@binimbap Yeah, I feel like there's a lot of misinformation being thrown around regarding the legality of it. I wrote a comment about it to spread awareness, but it didn't really get any attention. Nevermind, it got 200+ likes now.

@racheldavey4052 As far as I'm aware they are ironically not illegal to do. I believe part of the reason why tattooing is still illegal is due to the stigma regarding it. It is similar to Japan in that generally only unlawful people had them.

@Sporkie It's not limited to them, but yes. Even America and Europe had the same stigma around it, and it can be noticed in the oldest generation, but they began getting tattoos purely for cosmetic reasons earlier. This means they simply have a headstart in the progress of removing that stigma. Unlike what a lot of people would like, these things take many generations to change. That's the case with all cultural changes.

@gg.youlubeatube6249 This isn't self harm though. Tattooing doesn't cause issues as long as there's no malpractice.
