  1. I definitely remember seeing LSI Logic chips on all sorts of cards wondering what they did in the early 90s. I was perplexed because when I got into the industry in the mid 90s they were known for storage solutions. It's pretty clear now.

  7.  @JohnVance  FYI, hunt the wumpus on dos and unix is text, but on the TI-99/4A it had a curious interface. It's worth checking out.

  9. If laser printers were new that's predating vim which started as an Amiga program in 1989 or so. You were probably using plain vi.

  10. If Atari and Commodore could ship GUI-enabled computers in the mid 1980s, I'm sure NEC could have if they decided to. Both the above basically purchased stuff off the shelf and adapted it. Fully handling Japanese language would have required more work, but I can't believe it would have been insurmountable.
