  1. If Atari and Commodore could ship GUI-enabled computers in the mid 1980s, I'm sure NEC could have if they decided to. Both the above basically purchased stuff off the shelf and adapted it. Fully handling Japanese language would have required more work, but I can't believe it would have been insurmountable.
