  1. When Macron says this isn't America, he means that he doesn't want fascism rising in France. When Biden says this isn't America, he means that he wishes US citizens to culturally believe that the US represents something better, so that we will vote for something better. You're of course also right that "This is America". We do have these deep problems. Politics needs to address the reality as well as the shared vision, and we're doing badly on the reality.

  2. This quote from Zimbabwe is 99% BS. Yes, the US has no place to talk sanctimoniously, and never did. Regardless, most nations can sanely criticize Zimbabwe's current political situation as being largely a farce and horrible for its citizens. This is just the posturing of a strongman.

  3. A broader slate of parties would be beneficial for the citizens. However, two-party is not structurally enforced. Claiming this is forced or enforced is folly. It's just a consequence of how our voting and representation happens to be structured. The easy things to do to enable more parties are just good things to do in general. 1 - Clean up campaign finance. In the service of this aim we wouldl seek to simply reduce the money involved to permit smaller players. 2 - Instant runoff voting. This would permit voters to express their will without having to resort to unfortunate "strategic voting".
