Another on equal measures tragedy was the unnecessary death of 320 children and teacher in the Sewol Ferry Disaster 2014, where the children and teachers were told to stay under deck, and were trapped there, none survived apart from the Captain, who went into hiding. Irresponsible greedy criminals overloaded heavily the MV Sewol, bribed the crew, and caused the sinking of the ferry. Then it took ages until the Ferry was lifted up, and the bodies recovered, some not found, and many not identified. A scandal
of epic proportions. SKorea is a corrupted country ruled economically by 5 families.
The collapse of the Shopping Mall was also a corruption case, as the Management had been informed, that the building is in danger of collapse in its rotten construction, but the management ignored the report of assessment of the state the building was in.

@RayQ101 l had this thought too, but l think, the Authorities of this Island should not allow in bad weather conditions, or under any conditions let people hike alone there. It should be a requirement to be accompanied.
I found, while wandering in Mountains with ravines, deep jungle like forests with small paths, and boulders all alone ones gets all types of crazy, or insane, or mysterious thoughts. The howling wind, the breaking of branches, the “noise” of the shoes while walking can be terrifying. Just saying. It’s a very sad story, and if it was not intentionally to disappear, than it could have been avoided by better precautions by the Authorities, who know, many hikers have disappeared there.
Japan has some strange habits.
Two years ago l saw a video about Aokigahara, Sea of Trees, a forest on the northwestern flank of Mount Fuji on the Island of Honshu, called Suicide Forest, as many suicidal people are visiting there. And in the past many died there. 54 people succeeded till now in 2023 there.

Thank you for telling this heartbreaking story. It’s the one thing, no parent want, that their child dies before them. It’s a tabu . 😢 It’s an unbearable pain.
As l understood, there have been many deaths hiking on this mysterious looking Island, so why do the authorities let persons climb there without a companion for safety reasons, also as everyone has a Mobil phone today, there should be regular contact with a phone station at the base, to know, where people are. This is not well organised, climbing should be only in small groups allowed. People just can’t disappear, and life gets on as normal. Very sad story. My heartfelt condolences for this couple, by condolences l mean for what they are going through. May their prayers be heard, and let them find peace. But this could have been avoided by the authorities with more prevention tactics. 😢💔 Australia

Yes, greetings from Australia. I have been walking the mountains in South Korea for 10 years, and l loved it, because it is so safe. Many hiking paths are closed over winter, and open again at the beginning of April, when the paths have been assessed, and repaired. Every year were also improvements carried out. My favourite walking paths where in the Jirisan National Park, Mount Nagodan, and other surroundings there, accessible by buses to the entrances of the National Park. I loved the town of Namwon, from where l started the hikes. I always made sure to be with people, who can help, if something happened. But a few times despite being always cautious, l slipped too, and fell down of the path, but luckily mostly unharmed. Once l sprained my ankle, which was a difficult situation, but after two hours someone found me, and helped me back in a car to my hotel. It was a wonderful person, did not want to take any money. I felt so blessed and lucky. We became friends. Happy end. I have wonderful memories of my times in South Korea. Annyeong Haseyo

You have zero sense of family, and l hope, you never experience a marriage or partnership break down, and need your parents, sisters, brothers, or no-one on your side. You have no idea, how many people these days need their parents, and are living with their parents, because of relationship break downs, or they do not have any. I pity you. Your comment, the way you think is inappropriate.

@Lilly-leaf l hundred 💯% agree. You give me release from these many for me hurting comments here. I have been for 10 years for extended visits in South Korea, in Seoul, and all over the peninsula. The Elderly, especially the parents are extremely respected. When they eat they get the first serve, and they oversee the dinner, or lunches. I have been in so many families and seen their custom, and it might be a bit extreme, that children always have to obey, not to answer back to their Elders, but in our Western society it is also extremely disturbing, how our children speak, yell, abuse us elderly verbally, when ever they are angry, not pleased. It can be their work, or disagreement with their friends, lovers, relatives, they always let their anger out on their mothers, and or fathers, highly abusive language, and behaviour. Both extremes are not good. But if you live with your in-laws and don’t pay rent, don’t work, don’t contribute to the family’s income, you are wrong.

@linda77399 In Korea its the other way around, the children have utter respect to their elderly. And it’s an insult if you yell or are rude to elderly, especially parents. He should quickly learn proper Korean Hangul, as it is a beautiful logical language.
I understand your point, which hurts me very much, as in Australia it is the same, zero respect to an Elderly, father and mother.
You can yell at a 74 old mother, you can get angry, slam doors, abuse verbally, but in Korea it is an insult, and very bad behaviour. Just bear it, other cultures have other traditions, customs. If you cannot accept it, you will be in trouble. I was shocked, how he treated his mother in law, yelled at her, and she had to apologise utterly humiliating for her. You cannot assume that your customs are superior to other customs. It’s typical Western behaviour this righteousness. Just my point of view. Bye.
