I do not know, if l missed something out, but l did not understand proper, where this small wild beautiful elephant herd started there journey, and why, and where they are heading too, and what can be done to help them having food, and somehow save environment. I did not find there search for food, and a home territory funny, but appreciated that they were not shot, and allowed to go on their journey till now.
There was mentioned, that the beautiful unique Snow leopards kill domesticated yaks, and therefore conflicted with humans. How do Snow leopards know, what type of yaks they eat? There might be no wild yaks, or other animals left, they can eat, when they are hungry. So, my conclusion is, if you want coexistence between man and wild animals you need to let live other wild animals of all kinds that they all have food. In many videos about China’s, and Tibet’s mountainous terrains l have seen only domestic yaks, and other animals with people. No wild ones were shown, so what options do wild carnivorous animals have? Side effects of half way conservation are in my regard to try to save wild life, and their species, but not providing the right environment. For example, If you want Snow leopards to survive in the wild, you must provide an environment, where they can hunt for food, not starve to dead, nor relay on humans, otherwise just let go of the idea of having “wild life”. The idea of growing only crops elephants do not like is not a solution, if you do not want them to starve to dead, then better kill them. The conflict between wild life and farmers, and economical growth can be only solved by willing people, who love their wild animals as much as they like their economical growth, and compromise. Animals of all kinds have little say and understanding in the process of destroying their inhabited territories.
The challenge worldwide is economical development for the people v. Conservation of wild life, and every country must face it, and find solutions.
So, the 15 or so elephants searching for their place is a good challenge and opportunity to find a workable solution for coexistence between the two conflicting parties.
As much as l admire China in the achievements of lifting their people out of poverty, providing breathtaking entertainment, restoring ancient villages, building gigantic roads, bridges and so on, providing modern high tech living for the citizen, as no other country, l am concerned about the amount of natural resources, electricity, water, are spent and used up, when l watch these astonishing new mega Cities. I am in awe, and respect, but at the same time it scares me a bit about the future of our natural environment, and what will be left of it.
I am not picking in this regard on China, it worries me around the world, because the forces of nature, of what our planet is made off will always revenge what we do carelessly, or unintentionally, and we will not win. Thank you.
